Hey guys,
I'm after a bit of advice on where to go for an engine conversion. the problem I'm having is I'm rather new to modifying cars and i haven't a clue where to start when finding some one to do the work. and I was hoping that maybe some one on here would know of somewhere in Melbourne that was reliable and knows what there doing, i was hoping some where that may have done a few zooks all ready.
I a haven't made up my mind on which engine i want yet , all i really want is something fuel injected and have enough power to comfortably cruze at 110 on the freeway even when going up hill. I have not ruled out the G16A completely only it is my last choice , and dose any one know anything about the G13BB from a jimny it seems like a simpler job and I like that I don"t need a body left to clear the engine, and lastly what would be considered a reasonable price for such a job I have so far been told some rather differnt number's from People that have had friends of mates doing such and such.

You really need to decide on what motor your going to go with first.

have a search around the site and read up on the pros and cons. there is heaps of info already on here just waiting for you to find it.

the G13bb is not really much easier or harder than a G16B from a baleno. you dont need a bodylift for a G16 to fit. JRzook has one in his.

g13b (gti) is less prone to cracking, but probably should rebuild.
Likes to rev higher, so you need to gear accordingly to overcome the downsides of the torque curve.
Doesnt need an adapter kit, but needs dizzy and thermostat mods depending on which era gti you get.

The g16b is prone to cracking, and requires an adapter kit. However produces more useable torque (which is why it is loved). Vit g16b should go in easily, the baleno non coil pack requires dizzy and thermostat mods, the baleno coil pack only requires thermostat mods.
g16b also opens up more gearing options (vit manual, aw4, or 3speed auto).
This can be done on the g13b with the use of adapter plates too.

As per what it costs.... or where to get it done?
Theres a few hours sorting the loom out probably 1/2 day for someone experienced. Much longer for noobs.
The bolt out bolt in pretty quick, especially if you have all the stuff prepped in advance.
Laying the new loom, fitting electrics and what not is the time muncher.

Im guessing here, but id be expecting
A rebuild on the engine is probably around $1100, reco around $1400.
probably $400ish for loom mods
$400 bolt in/out.
probably $400 for loom and other stuff installed.
You will need a jimny tank, or get a coily tank and fuel pump assembly. $300?
extractors... im not sure on the price $200? incl new cat converter and new exhaust system $450?
Bent kit - $200
New leads $80
Motor to rebuild/reco incl loom and manifolds $300
Spare bits and pieces for wiring $100
New fuel lines, filter etc $100
Air filter $50

Thats all I can think of for now... im sure theres more to it.

For a shop to do drive in, drive out... $4000 would be very reasonable, but a quote $5000+ wouldnt surprise me.

Shops wont shop to find the cheapest items etc, they probably wont even shop around. They will pay more (because you pay) to get it asap.

You could try suziworld in west heidelberg.

Thanks again guys i spoke to suziworld yesterday and they were very helpfull and offered a rather reasonable price I'm yet to discuss all the details but i will on monday in person,
and Dave once its all complete we will have to go for that drive we never got around to.

Yeah I find Pirahna over priced he uses vit engine and box to Sierra tcase and makes everything in house his his s3 reduction case is 1200 plus a cradle or a rock ring but don't get me wrong if I had coin I'd go there he knows his shit
Suziworld seem ok very arigont but also know there shit so it's all upto what other people reckon I've gotten spare parts off him and payed heaps for them

http://www.cammoffroad.com.au/ pretty much done an entire rebuild of a mates folks 80series cruiser and they were damn happy with the service.

Having done alot of engine conversion on various cars over the years, I think $7k with a cert is pretty damn reasonable for a drive in drive out swap.
