Hello wonderful auzookers,

I have just finished my first mod today, which is put a whole OME lift on a stock Jimny. Other than stripped a bolt on the rear shock, I think most steps were ok. The stripped bolt is still on the shock, but I think it is ok at the moment before getting someone to fix it on Monday.

A little bit on road testing shows that the ride is quite a bit noisier, almost like I can hear the coils and shocks moving, also the car feel smoother and softer. The question: are my observations normal? Have I done something wrong?

Thank you all!

Assuming everything is ok,
and you greased the new bushes,
it probably will get quiet after a bit of use.
Mine (on a Sierra) was noisey for a few weeks.

Haven't greased the bushes, is that very bad? Also how much do you think it will cost to fix the bolt and the receiving tube which is welded to the frame?

Poly bushes need the correct grease, yes.
If they are rubber bushes, it is not needed,
but correct rubber grease can help.

It won't hurt in short term,
but plan to grease them soon.

I have no knowledge of what the repair would cost, sorry

Thanks for the quick reply, cristover1. The OME shocks come with the bushes, and they are black and quite soft, so I assume they are rubber bushes. Do I just grease the metal sleeves on the buttom bolts?

Also I didn't remove the stabiliser bar when putting the coil springs on. I only loosen the bolts at the ball joints and now I can't tighten the bolts anymore. Have I damaged the ball joints? Sorry for asking so many questions.

I have never worked on a Jimny,
so can't answer with any details.
I had an old Sierra, and now an old Vitara.

Black sounds like rubber, but may not be.
OME poly bushes were yellow in my day.
So make sure before greasing,
as wrong grease can damage the bushes.

Sway bars are often difficult to refit after a lift,
should get easier when it settles down.
Loosening all the bolts may make it easier

I don't know about the ball joints but ARB fitted my OME 40mm lift to my 2009 Jimny and the ride was soft and comfortable afterwards and not at all noisy.

The bushes are rubber so all it good in that department... As for the noise, make sure the springs are seated properly! If they aren't they will click and groan whenever there's any articulation :)

if it is grinding/clicking the springs need to be rotated a little. that shouldnt sit hard up against the spring mount thingo, undo the shocks and rotate the springs so there is a gap of at least 1 cm

also there is one longer spring and one shorter on on the rear. the longer one goes on the drivers side.

and yes, OME is very soft. much softer than tough dog on a jimny.

Thank you all for the advices, I am going to grease the bush a bit and rotate the coil to make that 1cm space, hopefully that fix the problem.

It's $848 for the lift kit, about $250 more for fitting. Bull bar would cost about $940 if you are considering that as well. I got mine from ARB Artarmon.

Ditto, fitted mine myself, no noise either. I think you have something loose. Sway bar link was a tiny bit loose at the ball joint and it knocked a lot. So I suspect you have something loose somewhere, even if just a little loose.

isnt that longer spring meant to go in the front? as there isnt any uneven weight in the rear for the need to have differently compensated springs.

I personally wouldn't bother fixing the rear shock bolt and mount. Go to Jimnybits on the web and order shock reposition brackets which will let your shocks move more freely, gives you a little more down travel and you drill the shagged mount out( which is garbage anyway) and fit new bolts that come with the kit! Cheap, easy, better performance, and you will have to spend money on it either way so no loss at all really!

I think that's the way to go, just ordered the brackets. Thanks for the idea.

I think that is the problem, loose links connecting the sway bar. I tried to remove the links though the bolts wouldn't come off, I will try again in the weekend with some wd40 applied the night before.

you wont get thoes swaybar links off they require a special puller or smacking them with 2 hammers. you have to release them first before they will come off.

iv been told the cheap way is 2 hammers hitting on top of the thread and on the bottom of the joint at the same time. to release the joint then you undo the bolt and they fall out.

if you just want to do them up tighter just use some grips on the tip of the joint and turn the nut with a spanner. if you dont grip it the joint just spins as you turn the nut doing nothing
