I was given 2 of these when I purchased my GV & both have gone kaka on me. Thought it was the battery at first, but nope, changed that & it doesn't make an ounce of difference.

Where can I either repair them or get them replaced without taking out a bloody bank loan?

I have been quoted $150 for ONE from a dealership!!!!

Are yours genuine mate? Mine is a 99 GV and I didn't get genuine remote entry without shelling out my first born child when we bought it!! So we went non genuine


Wasn't standard until 2000 I think. Mine is a silver sword system. Biggest heap of crap I have ever encountered. About to install a mongoose system.

Can you post a pic of the circuit board?

If they are the original remotes they could have just gone out of tune. One of my remotes had an adjustable trimmer capacitor for tuning, the other just had a small strip of metal acting as a capacitor. When it stopped working I fitted another trimmer and tuned it up and it worked again.

If the remotes aren't originally from your car they might not have the right code programmed in. I don't know much about how to fix this but I have seen some discussion about it on other forums.

Yeah ZOOK37, It is genuine and Ibelieve it came standard on the car as it has all the books with it explaining the central locking and the remote control.
My Zuk is a May 1999 build.

Mugwui,

Your's both have trimmer capacitors fitted in the bottom right hand corner (blue on the new one).

While within range of your car hold the button down (SW1 on the circuit board) and try adjusting the trimmer backwards and forwards and see if it starts working. Maximum adjustment should be about 3/4 of a turn. If it works keep adjusting it until you get maximum range.

Annondam, if yours have the same component fitted in that position you can try the same thing.

Will this work even if it not synced wth the car?, as that is the problem that I'm having. After doing the whole "turn th key sequence" nothing seems to be happening. The old one still sync's with it but it has a dodgy button, hence replacing it.

I think it is talking about your version of the remote.

Mugwui, no it won't make any difference if the remote hasn't been synced. All it is doing is tuning the radio transmission frequency/strength. Is the procedure in the suzuki forums thread what you are referring to when you say the "turn the key" bit?". Any electronics repair place should be able to replace the dodgy button on your old remote in about two minutes flat by the way.

Does anyone have a copy of the manual that refers to the single button remote type of keyless entry? Mine manual only refers to an immobiliser that works by reading a chip built into the key when you stick it in the ignition, not keyless entry.

Nah not my version, that one appears to be inside the key, mine's a separate device from the ignition key.

You still have a separate lock and unlock button though. So give that procedure a go and see if it works.

I have that manual, I will scan it and try to post it.
There is more on the central locking and on the factory Alarm if fitted.
If you want these I'll scan them to, but this is the main part of rhe whole thing.

I have tried to turn the screw as you discribed but still no action.
Might have to bite the bullet and take it to a zuk dealer.

You may have to try that whole overly complex process a few times adjusting the screw a little bit each time to get it to work.

Ok so the transmitter for my 01 GV decided to stop working. I've got the same one in the pics that Mugwui posted above.

I changed the batteries and all was fine. Less than a day later it stopped working again. Given that it couldn't possibly be the battery, i reprogrammed both of the transmitters (mind you the spare still works). Whilst going through the programming sequence, i could tell that the working spare re-programmed itself, however no response from the one i was trying to fix. Went through this process a few times and still no go

Anyone have any ideas what it could be? I don't understand why it would work for less than a day and then stop working again

Something you might like to try.......
My jimny remote stopped working after a while. To fix it, i opened it up and noticed the buttons were clogged up with some kind of green gumy stuff. so i decided to carefully take the buttons apart and clean them up, resoldered on one of the tabs, put it all back together and away i went

Cheers for that, but i gave the inside a good clean when i changed the batteries.

Oh i should have mentioned - the red LED on the remote turns ON when i press the button, but doesn't do anything else

Just wanted to say Mugwui's method worked a a treat for my 99 Grand Vitara remote and immobiliser. My keyless remote stopped working, I suspect it got wet. I cleaned it out and changed batteries but still no luck. After a lot of stuffing around and no help from the Canberra suzuki dealers I finally found this post and solved my problems. I will say though that I had to try it about half a dozen times before it worked so I've got a couple of notes for anyone else caught out.

- When cycling through ACC to ON, this needs to be done at quite a rapid pace.
- If you don't get the flashing lights wait exactly five seconds (time it on your watch) and follow the process in the notes. I found after cycling the the key another ten times my immobiliser was disabled and I could now start the car.
- After the immobiliser was disabled I started from disconnecting the battery again and after the twenty key cycles and thinking it didn't work, I had started the extra ten cycles when my lights started flashing.
- So it seems you need to get the process just right, but it does work.
