I was at TAFE today and saw some triple carbs sittin on the shelf and i pictured them mounted onto the 50 motor, would it be possible? and would there be any advantages or disadvanteges of it?
i'd say i would have to get a piece made up for it to be bolted onto the top of the motor if it would work.

being at a TAFE for marine mechanics n so on, i figured they were off a outboard and someone said 50hp motor i don't remember the brand he said, but most of the motors are car motors.
There was 3 brand new GM 4cyl efi motors that looked very tempting to try get 1 and see if would fit in my LJ50 plus bits n pices all over the store room i'd kill to get my hands on.

It's been done before in combination with triple expansion chambers and porting seem to remember a thread on LJ10 about it. Heaps more power but I reckon it wouldn't last too long and still wouldn't be fast (or any better offroad). If you want offroad performance and cool, a well running 2stroke is great. If you want speed put in a bigger 4 stroke IMHO that makes them top heavy and nose heavy and way too scary on steep downhills. Each to there own though.

It was just a thought, what other little touches/adjustments/improvements could be done to a 2 stroke, anything, im interested to just fiddle n try things, we are working on 2 strokes and small 4's at TAFE soe every thursday is the best day of the week !!
I could imagine havin like a bonnet scoop thingy with the top of 3 cromey pod filters comin out it, or wat if i had 3 carbs, all the same and got a block made up for them to mount onto with the reed valves underneath like the original manifold

Only know of one ( carry van) done with triple carbies, ports done correctly & expansion chambers. Up to 80km there wasn't to much around that was quicker.

2 strokes aren't as simple as they look.
Once you get into port timings, shapes, sizes and entry angles into the cylinder it becomes a science.
Then there are combustion chamber volumes, shapes and squish clearances to contend with.
Once you find something that works and you start playing with expansion chambers, you get to do it all again when any of the above variables fall outside what the pipes are designed for.
There is always a trade off. If you want power down low, you lose top end and if you want top end then you lose bottom end.
People that play with 2 strokes will usually have a set of numbers that works reasonably well as a starting point. They can then fine tune where they want the power to be.
Bigger isn't always better unless it is displacement. I have known people that just hog the ports out and then wonder why they have lost a significant amount of power.
I'm waiting for Shep to find me a 3cyl suzuki engine so I can have a play.
