Hi All, Wondering if anyone can help me, my Vitara has displayed Check Engine on the dash, first thought it may have been air flow sensor so I cleaned the wire, reassembled and light was still on. When starting cold, it runs lean until warm and then is a little rough at low revs. Have taken it to mechanic, he has scanned it and it comes up Code 41 Ignition Signal Circuit Missing. He has checked a few other things and reset it. When started again the light comes back on and symptoms are the same, he is not sure which step to take next. Vehicle has about 300 000km's on clock. Bought it about 5 months ago, changed timing belt, crank and cam seals, travelled about 6000 km's with no worrries until now. Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated! Greg 0428 789854

Is he sure that it was code 41 ? generally ignition signal missing will cause no spark / no injector pulse . also the ignition signal does not control the pulsewidth of the injectors . pulsewidth of the injectors are controlled by other things like afm , tps and ECT (code 14!!)

Hi All, losfer, thanks for the reply. He definitely said Code 41 as he wrote it down on paper for me, however he was really busy. Will bring it up with him tomorrow, it starts easy enough, just a little rough (some people might not notice). Is there anything that you might suggest to try? Cheers

The engine won't start with a code 41, if the Ignition FailSafe signal is not present then the ECU will cut injection. Code 41 will only show while cranking, could it be Code 14? you can check the codes yourself: http://www.rhinopower.org/diag/cel.html

Left the car with him until today and he tells me that it was his Snap on scan tool that gave code 41 even though as you say it does not add up. Then he tried an Ultrascan which identified the problem as Air Flow Meter which is back to what I first thought. Sourced a second hand one from the wreckers off a 1994 model for $110.00, when I fitted it the check engine light went out straight away and car is back to normal, happy days! A friend of mine has a 1996 Estate and he had the same problem, his old one was 13000-58B00 E5T5 3071 6122 and he replaced it with __________________________________________________________________13000-58B00 E5T5 3071 4925 My dead one is______________________________________________________13000-58B00 E5T5 3071 4209 and I replaced it with __________________________________________________________________13000-58B00 E5T5 3071 4705 So I am wondering is the top number (first 10 digits) the part number and the second number the order in which it was made? Also are they the same parts and the right ones to use? The mechanic said these can be rebuilt, what do they actually do and who does it if I have the problem again? The part number is 13800-58B00 , not 13000-58B00
The first part of the part number .. 13800 refers to part description .. air flow meter .
the 58B00 refer to what model of car it fits .
all the other numbers are batch or production numbers.
for example a 57B00 or 58B00 is 1.6 vitara 52D00 or 65D00 is particular models of grand vitara 86500 is for SA swift 64B00 is SF swift

13800-58B00 is a Suzuki part number E5T5 3071 is a Mitsubishi part number the last four digits are a serial number The 57B00 is a Volume Air Flow Meter, the 58B00 is a Mass Air Flow Meter, the 58B00 part refers to the vehicle that it was originally fitted to, hence you will also find a 58B00 on an X90.
The Mass air flow meter can sometimes be refurbished by overhauling the circiut board, if the hot wire sensor needs replacing then it may need to go to a specialist that will have the correct replacement part.

Just think of how many vehicles the G13BA engine has been fitted to - the part numbers don't change from vehicle to vehicle - research this one if you doubt me - the engine block and head numbers for a J18 as fitted to a Baleno/Esteem are the same numbers for the the block & head on a J20 for a Vitara - YES - as strange as that may sound, the 1.8 litre & 2.0 litre engines apparently share the same block & head right down to the part numbers, curiously enough, the J18 fitted to a Sidekick Sport uses different numbers.

Hi All,
Thankyou everyone for your replies! So to dumb it down for someone who misread the part number 4 times, am I right in thinking that the last 4 digits are not important if I have to look for another?
Alternately, is there a range from one number to another number that will work fine and interchange? For example like engine numbers with the prefix being the important part.
Possibly in the future, we may have to source parts from other vehicles with Mitsubishi AFM's, it would be good to know which ones!
