just wondering if anyone has used this size tyre on there zook
bfg make a km2 in this size,
im thinking of running this as my road/adventure tire,
and then swapping out to the interco q78-15lt for hard play

anyhow.. just wondering if anyone has run this size tyre and what are your thoughts on it

They are a really cool size, but in all honesty, you might find a 33 10.5 easier to work with (cheaper rims, cheaper overall I'm guessing, very close in size)

Check the load rating on the 255/85 too - they are generally pretty high rated, which will hurt ride quality and performance when aired down.

Don't get me wrong, 255's rock, but just do the sums.

This has come up a few times. It seems to be a hard size to get in Aus. More common overseas. Japan like the tall skinny sizes.

that was my concern,
they are rated at 123 load rating compared to the 33x10.5 at 114

I have them on my landrover. Most defenders run them if they want to up the tyre size a little on stock suspension. It's not that hard to get hold of them. As said BFG KM2 come in this size, as do Maxxis bighorns. When aired down the maxxis ones bag pretty good on 7 inch rims, but I have more weight than a zook due to a large diesel engine over the front axle. Most newer 4wd's are running bigger than 15 inch rims these days to cover larger brakes etc, so it is getting easier to get 16 and 17 inch tyres.

The sticky compound would be great in the smaller sizes. Sticky 33" Bias Treps with the proper tread would be amazing.

the big horn MT-762 are available in 255x85x16 and they are load rated at 119... so that is a bit lower than the km2's
local smokey said they are in stock in the warehouse in sydney.. quoted 350 a corner

so the km2 33 x 10.5 is still looking the best option due to the lower load rating of 114


but... i think its time to look into the creepy 255x85x16 with only 104 load rating

I also have Bighorn 762s on my Defender. $305 each. They work fine but I don't wheel it as hard as the LJ so can't really say how they'd go on a zook. The Maxxis book says they should mount on 7.5 to 9.5 inch rim so I had to get 16 x 8s for it. I think they'd work on 7s and I've heard of folks using them on 6 1/2s ok.
They are noisy like any muddie but they are wearing fairly well.

$350 each sounds a little steep. I rang around 15 tyre places chasing prices when I got mine, and the prices varied a lot. The most expensive price I got for the bighorns was more than the cheapest price for the KM2's, so it pays to shop around. I paid $285 each, but that was 2 years ago.

You'd be surprised, but importing tyres from the states is still an option, even with shipping costs.

When I looked a few months ago, 255/85R16's were just a bit over $200 each from the states for a KM2

So after hunting about looking for other options,
im drawn back to the 33x10.5x15 km2...
it ticks the boxs, tall and narrow, low load rating and at $287 per tyre (locally)it seams the deal

As tempting as the above creepys are, i think id buy some q78's from opw instead of import them if i were to get a bias tyre

have done, as im after five its a bit of a stuff around with double postage to stay under the $1000

at a touch over 1400 for 5 im happy with a local deal

Total including shiping and tax works out 1298 for 5. Yes you are right, its cheaper than 1400.

I hope you are prepared to wait then Pezz. If they have an order for 350+ tyres and it fills the container your 4 will be left until there is space.

I would say after three months you will get the shits and order them yourself. The local store can only tell you what the wholesaler will tell them and they really dont give a fuck about four tyres when they are pumping out 40 foot containers a day. been on both ends of the deal, and was even talking directly with the wholesaler who actually orders the tyres (cause our retail store was part of the company that owned the wholesaler as well) and they dont care. They get given deals to get rid of the factory stock and that doesnt leave room for your 4 tyres.

My five tyres are in stock with my name written on them,
not that that is any help to me as no two bits of my rig are bolted together
hang on, the pully is bolted onto my power steering pump
