As for tyres, it's easier to fit a narrow tyre compared to a wide one, and by happy coincidence, when it's wet, narrow tyres work better too, because they increase ground pressure making the tyre "bite" harder.

7.50 16's are a good option - they are cheap, easy to find in aggressive tread patterns, tuck inside the guards well, and are easy to cover (rarely need flares)

Any extra diff clearance you can muster is always a win in our ruts.

'pedes are awesome in mud, but that small size is going to hurt in the ruts and 'pede's suck in summer - they hate rock - they just don't want to hook up.

Yup! Added a heap and plan to add shitloads more with the hilux diffs and 33x12.5,s. what goes up must go out or fall on its head is pretty obvious. I understand with low centre of gravity and wanting massive down travel and no up travel via bumpstop spacing etc. The one question I have about this technique is, how does it drive on the road? Are potholes and nasty roads a pain in the ass literally? I would love to drop my Jimny from 3" spring and 2" body down to 1" or 2" lift and heaps of down, but I also don't want to compromise my plush as ride now after the stock suspension was worse than a Kmart push bike! I don't care what happens but never ever will I ride in that setup again! If the ride is compromised, and this is purely from guessing alone as I have not experienced a ride in any low rider style 4wd, would it not be easier or get the best of both worlds by widening track and fitting flares?

Depends what you want as it's a compromise each way. Heaps of up travel equals a bit of a floaty feeling offroad, but nice ride (this is also shock dependant) or nice and low with a good solid feel off road and a but bumpy off road...

A good compromise is needed for a DD that gets wheeled hard.

40mm lift, 30x9.5 Federal MT's on steelies with Sierra transfer. All inner gaurds chopped and hammered. Drop pressures to 10 PSI.

Goes everywhere a Prado with more spent on it then my cars worth (rear locked) and further!

Gave mine a little run in wattagans today, was a bit worried about height with 3" spring and 2" body lift.
Not a problem so far..... Had it on some angles that I was told looks real bad, car still felt stable but. Maybe it's me and being used to some wicked angles.... Do it at work everyday!!
The 31" bighorns..... Love them! Grip in loose leaf litter covered ground, mud bogs, rocky steep inclines etc etc etc! Awesome tyre IF you can put up with some steering shake, road noise etc... I guess everything that goes hand in hand with muddies on the Tarmac.
31,s provide good clearance with the diff, but I want More! Same as trialjimny gearing, worked well with 31,s except for 1 real steep incline that I had to give it a little more gas than I liked. I usuall like to try and crawl stuff if I can.
And very happy to say I kept up with my brothers 4" lifted, 35" big horned gu pootrol. We had another random guy join us with a cruiser ute, 2" lift, 33" bighorns, winch etc and well....we snatched,winched,rock packed etc the cruiser lots.... None for pootrol or Jimny! Happy with the mods so far and I don't think the lift is really all that bad running 31,s on -13 rims. Maybe others disagree but I am confident and happy so far with how it goes.

now more diff clearance, would be bigger tyres and 31's is the limit that jimnys can handle... some would say is even over the limit :/


and more low range is easy as put a sierra transfer case in and get some gears for it... many choices to make u happy

stock tires are to big for jimnys.
