Have recently changed the rear diff from out of a grand vitara to achieve different ratios now there is a loud whine from diff which is most noticeable when deaccelerating when road is driving the tyres. Pulled it apart and the spines on the axles are sligthty twisted. Is the diff housing supposed to run a gasket apart from silastic, or what has caused this or isnt this even causing the noise, any help?

Many things could be causing the noise, but lets start with some more info

Did you swap the complete centre or just the diff gears??
Did you do ANYTHING else apart from the centre when you did the job???
Do you have mud tyres, at tyres etc
Are you tyres wearing flat or are they scalloped???

Didi you take it out 4WDrivinng since you fitted the centre???? ( this is to find out about the axle twist)

Anything else you could add would help us help you

We swapped the complete centre
Nothing else was done in the rear end where the noise is definetly coming from
It has the stock tyres and rims at the moment
Havent driven enough to see any tyre wear
I bought the car of a mate who originally put the gv diff in, fitted 30" muddies (for a very short period) then swapped to 31" all terrains untill he returned it all to stock(tyres,diffs) so he could sell the vehicle and parts seperatly then i decided to buy it so we fitted the gv diff again he said he never had any nosies like i have now and never noticed the axle splines twisted

put the car up on jack stands, remove the rear wheels but refit the wheel nuts to keep the drums on, and get it up to the speed at what the noise comes in, and back off have a mate listen for noises.

Also then try with ear plugs in, this may seem stupid but will help remove background noise (exhaust noise) and help you get a better idea were the noise is. It may just turn out to be rear wheel bearings so then you could pick up some second hand axles with good bearings and slap them in.
