What about an old flyscreen door. You know the alloy security door and justcut that into strips. Sure it will bend but its better than a hat full of dicks....

Assuming they are non slip, strong enough etc.

Seem some for sale at 25mm, 38mm and 50 mm thick.

Don't need huge strength I guess for zooks

They will be 30x30 squares 38mm thick with the grit top coating (embedded sand)

Not sure on colour but may go something really bright.

Plan to get enough for 3 sets at first and if popular ill get more.

Bit the bullet and bought some waffle board.

Ive cut them up into user friendly sizes.....1190x305x38

Bright yellow.


Did a driveway test to see how strong they are. Set them up and drove the GV up them. I must say i was a little concerned with the creaking noises they made but they held up really well. Really impressed. Even did a bridge test and.... well se for yourself...

Went out for a day run with the aim to test the recovery boards. Well they did better than expected.

I like these a lot - I think I might have to sort out a couple.

It might be worth putting some webbing loops on them or something to give you a hand holds to help pull them out of the mud if they've sunk in. We've found Sierrajim's maxtrax can be hard to pull out of the mud if they've had a few cars run over them.

I was watching a you tube vid on a guy bogged in sand in Sth Africa.

He tied his sand ladders to the car, so he didn't have to stop,
or go back to get them.

Hey Steve.

Ive still got a set as a mate has piked on the deal. They weigh about 15kg as a pair. Not exactly light but definately strong enough.

Oh and PJ tried his hardest to get up the ramps but forgot his tyres were still on hwy pressures. Pathfinder Fail.....again....

I'd be worried after a bit of use that these would fracture/split/crack being fibreglass(i know its reinforced). I know they would be fine in platform and step applications in industrial sites but the flexing and weight of a vehicle on top would surely decrease the life of it?

If its going to used by multiple people, stretched, pounded, and jammed full of stuff, they should at least be blue.

Yes you can get other colours. Green, Blue and yellow,

I chose the yellow ones for price and availability.

I was impressed with how they stood up to the bashing PJ gave them. He landed on them hard with his bullbar a few times and all it did was chip the fiberglass a bit.

Do you think the non slip surface variety is needed?
Your GV had no issue.
Wet road pressure tyres clearly don't bite.

I have heard and seen times where the bity surface type make steering impossible,
as the ramps spin out.

Time will tell, nothing ever does everything perfectly.
Happy so far.

We can test mine on weekend.
Run a few cars and trailers over them.

Thet sell the stuff for drain covers and other vehicle uses.
Comes in different load ratings, over different spans.

Time will tell I guess

I've just run over my car with a tape measure and scratched my head a bit, and I'm going to give them a miss, at least until I've had a look at christovers. It turns out they won't fit where I was thinking they would, which would force them onto the roof. I'm not keen to run 15KG on the roof + whatever mounting I needed to make for them. I'm surprised they're that heavy - from he look of them I would have said they weighed 1/2 that.
