Swb 97 vitara AW4 auto.
Thought it was time to do a service on the tranny so ordered the new filter kit from ole mate at wentworthville from egay. Kit came, all good pretty straight forward process, pulled old filter and replaced with new, filled the tranny with new flyids( a little overfull) and all is good.... Or so I thought.
Around a week or so after the gearbox lingers in first gear and doesn't seem to want to change up. This occurs mainly first thing in the morning and not all the time, but it is a problem that needs addressing before it leads to something bigger. I am not sure if the fluid change has had an effect or just coincidence with timing? Had a bit of a look at the kick down cable and no problems that are evident to me, cable not binding, runs smoothly and on its guide properly.
Any thoughts guys? Or is this just a shagged auto box that needs an overhaul/replacing?

Unfortunately, autos need a little more than just a fluid drain and re-fill.

Now that you've spent all that money, you can take it to a mechanic and have them run the auto flush machine on it, replace filter again, and re-fill with more new oil. They will also vac the new oil in, which reduces the likelyhood of air pockets in the lines/ converter etc.

Cool I hope it's just air in the tranny or something stupid like that. As for all that money... Well under a hundred bucks for everything... Not much at all really? I at least had a crack at it, didn't work, so be it. I try to stay away from mechanics as the ones I have delt with in the past are just thriving mongrels who prey on all who have no knowledge of mechanicals.

Just call a few auto shops and ask what they charge for a flush. Tell them whats happening now that you've dumped and re-filled the oils. They will know what it is.

Did you re-ckeck fluid levels? Let the tranny warm up, get someone to put it in drive and place thier foot on the brake, then check the dip stick.

Yup done all that, car has been driving for couple weeks now and rechecking fluid levels. It only happens every other day not all the time, and mainly when cold. It kinda sux if it is from changing the fluid as I wish to do the pajero soon, got the kit and all! Just a bit hesitant now! Lol
