I really liked the size, weight and price of the tigers 11 Grande winch but since i caught up on the 4wd action mag winch testings and the water ingress results i'm no longer as keen to get one and am more keen on the winner (obviously) Avenger Mako 9500LB TDS 12.0 With Synthetic Dyneema Rope

What do people think about the accuracy and reliability of 4wd actions testings and what have you found with your own personal testings on either winch or another brand?
For those who haven't read it here it is

4WD Action/EMG have a financial interest in Tigerz11 (and Roo Systems) so anything they say about those is null and void. When that happened they stopped doing comparos so that which comparo is potentially unbiased(har har). However, an ex employee of EMG seems to reckon all the comparos were fair and PF is certainly a no bullshit forum. See post 12 here.

Tigerz11 winches are VERY appealing on paper but given the shit kwality of their stuff I've seen, their bad rep for warranties and the fact they're in bed with EMG, like fuck they're getting my money.

EDIT-Atari bet me to it. Just to clarfify, 4WDA have said they wouldn't do any more comparos in December 2011, shit went down (mouths onto cocks I'd say) with Tigerz11 and Roo Systems June this year. *

* All IIRC.

But you forget to tell us what your intentions are for the winch

And "using when I get stuck you ya muppet fuckhead" may be a correct answer but wont help us help you.

I mean what are the chances of it being used daily, weekly monthly yearly never????
What vehicle are you fitting it too???? and what bar do you have as not all winch bars are the same and not all fit every winch ( on suzukis especially)
Do you go out with Heavier vehicles that my need recovery????
What is your budget????

Well i was just asking around for brands for winches as i would assume that a brand would be similar in quality across all winch sizes even though i'm sure there are exceptions.
It would most likely be used say monthly but i would hope any winch would be able to be used daily or once a year with the proper upkeep.
It would be fitted to an 04 GV with a 'non winch compatible' TJM alloy bar but im planning on putting a cradle and getting something to fit.
I do tend to go out with heavier cars like hiluxes, pootrols, land cruisers etc and they get bogged but not sure how my light car would go winching them unless it was tied to a tree lol

Budget is what ever is within reason for the right winch but for this lets say $1500.

Even though i could get away with a 6000lb winch on the gv i was looing predominantly at the 9500lb winches to give a bit of leeway for bigger cars, bogholes, gear and strain on the winch etc.

I got a Tigerz 11, doesn't inspire confidence. For the money I'd say the are ok, so they are not, repeat not, a rip off neither are they as crap as some of the other china stuff looks. However I don't think they are in the same league as the good stuff.

When mine worked they pulled like a freight train
They have heaps of power
One didnt engage proply and my bro chewed the end of the gearbox apart
The other one had been used for one day on a massive hill for like 5h
Then the next time i used it the brake dont work anymore

I have a WARN m8000 and it has done a great job. It is quite slow but works well.

After recent conversations with someone who's info I trust, I'd look at a Bushranger next time. Apparantly they use seals and bearings where warn does not, they are quiet and use less power.

Consider upgrading your battery from stock as well.

If your serious about buying a winch, talk to Dank. He was talking up the Runva winches the other day when I was round his place, will probably end up fitting one to my GV when JoeBlow ends up finishing the winch bar for the GV's :D

If you're looking at warn, I just ordered an m6000 from lowrange for 900 odd to my door (yes it hasn't shipped yet but they have it and it's about to leave) when every shop I tried locally was $1300+
That said we did just drop $4200 on 4 x rd208's at arb this afternoon so don't give me the buy local lines :p
