I want to put a 10L Jerry can on the outside of
My Sierra but I'm unsure of where I could put a
Holder and I don't want to make up a rear bar.
I was thinking about making up a bracket that
Could mount onto the spare wheel but not sure
If the studs holding the wheel would be strong enough.
Thoughts?

I didn't bother with the 10L and went with the 20L. Made up a nice alloy bracket to hold it:

And strengthened the door skin hinge area with some steel angle:

Not sure it'd be as easy for us Christo, what with our pretty concealed hinges and curvy panels. Worth a look though. I'm actually more concerned about the strength of the door skin where the spare carrier bolts on. Beefing up that whole arrangement has been on the to-do list for a while.

I beefed up behind the Vits spare mount, when I lifted the mount up.
Mostly my jerries will be on the trailer.
A small metal one lives in the car, never gives off fumes.
Unlike the plastic ones seem to.

Yes very illegal for the jerrycan to be behind the rear bumper, unless you are carrying water. Petrol is a big no. Diesel may be OK though, but not many diesel zooks around. There is a good chance of a fireball in a crash.

there is nowhere were it states its illegal. You just have to make sure that your jerry can is mounted securely. You cannot have more than 250l or a product with a flash point of less than 60.5 degrees closed cup or 64.5 degrees open test. Diesel is higher so it dont count. This is where the people take some facts and run with them.

Lets imagina a scenario.
Soft top sierra has jerry can on the back. gets hit by a commodore. The commodore will be braking and will nose dive. The commodore will miss the jerrycan by fuckin miles and smash straight into your factory tank. Is that illegal???

But then you say what about getting hit by something bigger. If its so big that it will hit the fucking jerry can I dont think you are going to live anyway. Also jerry can are designed to take a massive impact. All you people are imagining the jerrycan exploding and everyone getting showered with burning rain like a scene out of a movie from Vitnam, but when the fuck was the last time you heard about that on the news??? The leaverage produced on all the mounting bolts would be outside of design..I believe

Absolutely. I had a bike rack break with my bike on it once. But the weight on the tow bar isn't that mental compared to some things you see on the road

I think that set up will block my rear handle I have a hardtop and it's in a differnt location then a
Soft top I think. If I mount it there it will be right over my handle.

I'm not so sure on that. That style of bike rack is normally rated to around 50-60kg max load.

All depends on his towbar. In vic it's illegal to have those racks on unless you are carrying a bike...
