Well the M15A is now in my jimny. Also running. When we first started it we had a bit of a rough idle but seems ok now. We put the m13A injectors in, dunno if they were the culprit as we also checked a bunch of wiring after for some reason it would not start anymore. Seems ok now.

Problems:
- Engine light is on. Has been ever since first startup.

- Strange knocking sound at random, SEEMS to be coming from the auto transmission. At one stage it went into drive but now it wont even do that. The knocking is not in rhythm (like a knock every rotation) it's completely random. You can feel it if you put your hand on the engine or the gear shifter. Not a massive knock but clearly not good.

Who knows about autos? We had drained the old oil out of the auto when we removed the engine and transmission from the car. We replaced it once the new engine was back in the car. Could an air lock in the transmission or something cause this? The transmission cooler isnt hooked up, the hose is just running straight back into the auto for now, obvously we'll hook that up b4 driving anywhere... but I dont see how this could be the cause.

Anyone out there got any ideas what to look for next?

How much fluid ddi you put in???

Did you line up the torque convertor and click it in???

Did you put the flexplate on the right way. ( yes I have done this myself on a bmw engine.)

TZAR thx for the reply.

We drained the tranny oil whiles out of the car so we got more than the 1L of oil you would usually get out. Unfortunately we didnt mesure it, but it took about 2L today and is at the high mark on the stick. Personally, i'm banking on lack of oil in the transmission somewhere being the problem. I dont know how to bleed the tranny to get rid of any air, like you do brakes.

I dont know the answers to your other questions, but will forward to my mate who's doing the swap, I am at home with new baby!

TZAR would we have had drive earlier on if the flex plate wasnt right, or the torque converter not clicked in? Because we did have drive for a while there. Which is why I figure the mechanical connection is fine, there must be a fluid issue? But then I didnt even know what a flex plate was till I googled it... so...

Cheers

To see if oil is running through it you could disconnect the hose that takes the hot coolant out of the auto while the car is running, it will squirt out pretty quick. You could even leave both ends in a tub/bottle of auto fluid to make sure its sucking and returning it?.

When you say it won't go into drive, is the shifter is stuck?, or you can move the shifter around and rev the car and it doesn't move?, what about reverse?

Have a search how to check Jimny engine codes. I take it you have the Jimny manual/wiring diagram? they are pretty comprehensive.

Cam, crank, vss sensors still all plugged in?

Put the M15 Injectors in. Everyone I know who offers or has done these conversions uses the donor vehicles injectors including the professional mechanics.

Remember running a bit rich is ok. Running lean is bad. at high rpms, the M13 injectors are going to struggle to keep up.

You may still need more fluid in the torque convertor.

Old valiant autos you could put the torque convertor on and click it in but if you didnt click it in enough it would work for a while then burn itself out in about 40 kms. I mean you would turn it whiulst pushing it in towards the housing and it would sort of click in once thn twice then just a little more. It as something about locating the pump drive or something. That was 15 years ago when we did that.

Thx guys for your ideas.

Found the problem. Tranny must have been misaligned when bolted to the motor.

The shaft end of the TC has 2 little notches which should fit into a tooth (maybe 2 teeth?) on the transmission (pump i think). The tooth was shaved clean off, the knocking was the tooth being pulverised into a little ball as the engine turned.

Have removed the pump assy and hope i can find another. Will post a pic later if i get time...

So who knows what this is called...? You can see where the tooth should be at the top of the shaft there, but it's sheered off...

Does anyone know where I can source an auto transmission rebuild kit (in case we decide to rebuild the tranny)... I cant find any references online using google.

Will be in the auto tranny place today and will also ask them, of course, but if anyone here knows where I can get a rebuild kit for the jimny AT i'm all ears.

Please dont take this the wrong way but if you cant line the torque convertor up in the first place I think rebuilding a auto may be way out your league. Autos can be an incredibly difficult thing to do.

Best bet find a s/h auto cause a rebuild may be around $2000.
here is a kit if you do want to have a go yourself http://www.atkits.com/individualproduct ... jimny-a174

No offense taken TZAR, I wont be doing the rebuild myself, it was more a case of info gathering so I can make a better decision about how to proceed.

No idea how the boys managed to misalign the tranny when installing on the engine but mistakes happen. We suspect it was because they fitted the TC to the flex plate first, then fitted the tranny. Perhaps the TC should have been fitted to the tranny first (which allows for easy alignment), then after the tranny bolted up to the engine, put in the bolts from the TC to the flexplate.

ANyway, i'm taking the broken part to the local auto tranny guys today, fingers crossed they can source a replacement...

Well from what I have found its a a-174 automatic so that should narrow dow parts finding on the net if you want one cheaper. Best bet though i to confirm this by checking the info tag in the car or the srevice manual.

With a little cross searching I came up with a Nissan D22 navara auto being the same. Unsure if it is true though you should research yoursel.

My bad it was on that list I posted but I came accross the wrong line and read the wrong one.
Sorry.

Dig you check the build tag in the car for the transmission code?? Just to confirm if its a A174 or a tw-40e apparantly they changed in 2004 but that doesnt mean shit in a suzuki

Correct. In the FSM there is always a section on ensuring the TC is properly seated onto the input of the auto before bolting the transmission up to the engine.

Cant help with the source for parts, AFAIK Suzuki are the only user of that auto.

I have not checked the transmission, I havent been near the car. It's at my mates place across town and i'm needed here...

Steve: Lesson learned the hard (read: expensive) way. I hope I can source just the part, transmissions make engines look dirt cheap!

Stabbed to the tune of $6200+ OMGWTFBBQ!

The jimny will die right here. I think this leaves me suzukiless. Worse! Carless! And now an outcast on 'zookers.

Unless someone has an auto box for my car... the river rat is dead

That seems... excessive. Am I missing something, or can you not just pick up a 2nd hand auto box instead?
