So I am getting over the ridiculously hard ride in my coily sierra. Does anyone have any experience with different springs for the coily sierra? can someone tell me what some "good" spring rates are? Just replaced the front 2 shocks thinking this would help this but no improvement, except they no longer clunk about now

Can anyone even tell me what the standard spring rate was for the coily sierra?

I have a 2.5" lift (suspension) from memory.

How much weight are you carrying?

My Pedders springs are harsh but ride great when loaded close to GVM.

How much air in your tyres?

Ive got the bluepac springs and they are quite soft and there quite cheap


also try running about 20psi in your tyres

Weight - Just standard usually empty car, no bull bar or roll bars or anything else heavy. Even with a full car most of the weight is over the back wheels and you can tell it makes and improvement in ride but this never really helps the front.

Tyre Pressure - I'm not convinced one should have to run lower pressures and increase tyre wear to "fix" suspension problems. But yes I have lowered pressures down to 18psi on a dirt track just because it was terribly unbearable.

@Fully Sick, I thought the bluepac stuff actually used king springs??? do you know what spring rates they are?

that theory is all well & good in a passenger car, but essentially you're dealing with a cart that has square wheels & no suspension.... tyre pressures will make a hell of a difference & 18psi isn't low, what pressures are you running on the road?

I run 20psi on road, anything down to 8 off road. Never had a problem with horse suspension in my coily, for a while there I was running the cheap eBay lift kit as well

Running correct tyre pressure as per the tyre placard is the correct thing to do and will not increase tyre wear.

Try 20PSI - otherwise go and live with your harsh suspension - any springs too light as to actually give a nice ride with excessive tyre pressures will sag really quickly and give lots of body roll...

I had the off-the-shelf lifted King Springs in one of my coilies and they were alright but definitely sat a bit lower when loaded - they might suit an unloaded car, but you will need to run correct tyre pressures or they too will be harsh.

I have a set of the king springs/ultima in my coily and run 20 PSI in 215/75 tyres and the ride isnt great but it isnt bad.
I used to run 25psi and it sucked. i found even 22psi was too much.

I am currently running 28front 26rear, and getting good even wear on the tyres. I will try the recommended 20psi and see how that goes I suppose. I still think the springs are wrong for the vehicle mass though, surely springs could be softer expecially in the front where mass over the wheels is not going to change all that much, I currently have next to no body roll whatsoever. Thank for the tips anyways guys.
