Definetly well and truly inshore  probably Cobar

Has to be one of them so the network thing can talk to the other one and put Topo maps on it

HDS use awesome maps, loaded by SD cards, that can be overlaid with satellite piccies and can be networked
with a few different systems. a HDS 7 new is less then a grand.

More buttons is better, makes typing in coordinates so much easier and quicker!

HDS units are very popular up here because they work so well in the shallow water we have.
80km from the nearest land it is still rare to see water deeper then 20 meters. so they sell heaps

land maps of SE Queensland and/or nth NSW would be a huge help. I am really struggling with getting any info or help with this thing, all the GPS 'experts' seem to have no idea what it even is.

here is our new toy!

I'll help you out if I can get a ride in that!

As you know the HDS is a marine unit and so none of the standard maps will work with them. I'm told there is software that you can install to make them compatible but didn't look into it too far because of cost. If it is for competitions and stuff you can still use it as a chartplotter you just won't have the information of the land formations. This is generally why Garmin marine units are chosen as they have a 'base' map that has basic topographic information in built. I don't know whether it is possible to import these maps but I bet you'd almost be able to crack it and run whatever software you want on it with the right information..
