That seems... excessive. Am I missing something, or can you not just pick up a 2nd hand auto box instead?

Oky I did a bit of looking for you on yahoo auctions and checked some posts but I cant be sure BUT I think the 660cc auto is the same.

You could try searching for a JB43 on yahoo auctions and then use translate but I did and found no autos but there are heaps of JB23 autos BUT they are for the K6a motor so you would have to see if the bell housing could unbolt and swap that over.

Here is one for 30000 yen and thats a dear one $366 AUD
http://page21.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/a ... j190345612

There are some online parts catalogues for suzuki in russian and you could compare part number on there to see if all the middle bits are the same. If you find the part you want to check IE the housing in the middle and on the link click part number it will bring up the genuine suzuki part number which 24720-66H11 which is the same for both autos so it just a different bellhousing. The gears may be different but not likely knowing suzuki. ( did the search for you cause I was bored)

Google "New Model Wreckers" In sydney. I've found that if they have the part in stock (and they always do) there's no point phoning around anymore since they are always the cheapest. They'll freight parts anywhere for reasonable market rate.

TZAR: Wow mate thx heaps for that info, unfortunately I dont have my Tranny here (it's in coffs harbour at the specialists) to compare.

But as it turns out, metal fragments have damaged almost everything. We do however at least have an idea what happened. The tranny fell from the workbench at one stage, TC end first. We think that's when the damage got done. I couldnt see any damage at the time (a carpet mat on the cement floor even prevented scratches) and thought nothing more of it, it wasnt until we took the TC off the front and I saw how it all lines up in there that I understood how it's meant to be. Then after a while remembered the drop, and it explains a lot. But because we started the engine, the tranny is pretty much shagged. Pump has a chip out of it, as do many other parts.

It's gonna be a bloody expensive drop though.

I have however called my insurer, and asked if it might be covered as accidental damage? She said they'll send an assessor... so ATM i'm crossing EVERYTHING that it wll be covered...

Otherwise I'll be seeing about the possibility of a manual conversion perhaps, with my auto transfer I believe this will be a lower gearing and I could even throw on some 30s

But to be honest I'd really rather stay automatic...

I picked up an auto transmission for my Jimny a few months ago for $1400 from Suzifour wreckers (I think) down in Sydney. I think replacing it entirely will work out cheaper for you than trying to fix the one you have, and you'll also have the piece of mind that goes with it.

Totally, and you'll have a spare for parts. Even if you get a high mileage second hand box, you can strip the parts you need off and keep the rest for spares. Either way, it's a second hand box from a wrecker is the way to go.

Yeah I'm not fixing this one. The price is more than half the car's resale.

I have to wait to see how the insurance claim goes. Then assuming no joy, the wreckers phones will start ringing. The ones I've asked so far, no joy. All the locals and new model wreckers dont have anything, manual or auto...
