Anyone played with power windows on a Grand Vitara before?

Drivers door window goes down fine, however when you try to put it back up only the back of the window wants to rise (ie. front is stuck). If I hold the window so it tracks straight it goes up fine. Once its about halfway up I can let go and it stays on track fine.

Have done a fair bit of googling on the topic but there are a million posts out there and I didn't find anything particularly relevant. Have also checked the FSM but it only covers the electrical side of it.

Have got the door trim off and the plastic peeled back. I can't see anything immediately wrong with the mechanism. There is a rubber track at the front of the door which the window slides in. Then there is the main vertical support which the motor goes up and down. Nothing appears to be off track or broken. Could it just be wear & tear in the mechanism itself?

Spray the guides in silicone spray or rubber safe similar or lanolin spray

I had a civic coupe that the windows were pretty big, both sides used to pop out. After the third time, i lubed it. It fixed it and I used to lube it every so often

This also works for manual windows, makes them effortless to wind up and down

+1 to silicone spray, you'll probably find that there is a fair bit of grime build up

Have a look at the bottom of the glass there should be two arms that pivot in the middle, they have a small plastic wheel on the end that runs in a track on the bottom of the glass make sure they are ok. I haven't had a Gv door apart so it could be a bit different but I think you get the picture. Good luck.

Have had a closer look at it. The only point where it attaches to the glass is the central mechanism which slides up and down the vertical support. Apart from that its just the rubber guides at the front and rear of the door that the window slides in. Front guide goes probably 3/4 of the way down, rear track nowhere near as much (probably only half way if that).

So reckon just silicon spray the guides first and see if that does the trick?

yes! Probably just years of buildup. Are those plastic white clips broken?

Also reduces the risk of your motor burning out

Lube up the window and the whole track, top to bottom let it soak in, and do again

pull the glass out, clean the tracks & also clean the build up off the glass

Clips aren't broken as far as I can tell, so hopefully it'll just be the rubber tracks causing it to drag. Will rip it out, clean it up and report back.

Fixed! Cleaned the tracks and silicone sprayed the shit out of them, and used some white lithium grease spray on the main support.

Glides up as smooth as can be now. Cheers fellas.

Going to replace the speakers while I have it apart. Stupid bloody size, distance to the outer edge puts it at 6.25", but the hole size is only 125mm which rules out the majority of 6.5" and quite a few 6" speakers also.
