I was out 4wd in the mud the other day, had a crack at a small bog hole and when I came out I got the handbrake light and battery light stay on my dash. I've check fluids handbrake cable and battery terminals and have found nothing. It also is not idling right and dies when not on the accelerator at lights etc. I've checked leads and intake track and found no water or anything. I have also sprayed some carby cleaner in an washed the engine down. Does anyone have any advice on what the problems are. Thanks in advance.

This has happened to me before. It turned out to be a failed reg in the alt. you will need a new one, and the stalling could be the erg,evap? I can't remember. It a diaphragm at the bac of the engine that gets stuck. Probs just a little rust on it. I have done a write up on cleaning it out.

Pull out the multimeter and check some voltages. Is the alternator charging correctly? Perhaps remove and clean where your earth lead connects to the engine/body. Do you have an earth lead to the body or just the engine?

Off the top of my head its just to the engine but it must be charging because I've started my car 30 odd times in 2 days because the stalling and been running subs and shit and the battery hasn't missed a beat. The alt has been steam cleaned and is spotless. I'll get the alternator out when I get home from work and double check. An could you please elaborate on erg/evap??

Hi mate, any auto place that does free battery tests are able to tell you if your alternator is faulty, i.e Supercheap Auto, century battery's etc.

oops I didn't do a write up and I had a dyslexic moment.. its the EGR, here is the thread I posted in. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=31068&hilit=g16b+stalling if you have never cleaned this its going to be full if shit and most likely what is causing the stalling. if you hacent already you can set up a relay to run the alt sense wire. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6600&p=635426&hilit=alt+sense+relay#p635426 about half way down nissvits post will tell you how. and here is a bit about the battery and handbrake light. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=34092&hilit=handbrake+light+not+going+out I have had this happen to me twice and both times the alt has been stuffed. time for a 110 amp falcon upgrade! hope this helps.

Well both of them seem very similar to my case but is it different because try have the g16 where as I have the g13.

oh shit my bad sorry. if its stalling its probably a blocked idle jet in the carby. (this was the reason I went to g16b). take the top off the carby, rev up the engine to a few thouand revs and put your hand over the hole. the revs will drop, take your hand off just before it stalls, repeat a few times. this always cleared the jets for me. alternatively you can swap ignition leads around but you would have to do a search for that as i never did it.

I've never pulled apart a carby before so I'm not totally confident what I'm looking at. I've just got word that the car was doing this before he sold it. I've had it about a month now and it has only just started, but its not like he would've told me that before I brought it right.

It's just pulling the 10mm bolt on the top if the carb. Undo that and pull the black bit on with the hose attached to it. Can't go wrong

There could even be mud in the fuel.

I have found my alternator to no put out any current so hopefully I'm getting a new one after work and that fixes the battery light. Also with my carby it's a weber not a stock one. I took the top off yesterday and reved it up and blocked it off to try suck whatever shit though and it still didn't work. I did that a number if time and I put some cleaner though it to.

Replaced the alternator and both lights went away, thanks guys and thanks Tim for the alternator.
