alternator only putting out 12.8v

My old alternator shit its self so i got a second hand one of bluesuz and and is working but its only putting out 12.8 volts. the battery is only 3 weeks old.
and 12.8 volts doesnt get you very far at all. Where abouts does it earth out and is there any weak spots in the wiring?

No warranty! Its off my lwb thats been sitting around. Id say thats no good.

Get yourself a 10v battery and the alt will be fine.

To check the earth, check voltage at battery + post (or alternator B+) with multimeter - on alternator body. If you get 14v, start cleaning earth connections (battery/chassis/motor).

A bad earth can easily drop a volt or 2 when measured accros the battery posts.
