I don't want to be a hater, but don't do it, apart from christover everyone who has posted has put them in a Sierra, I've said it before, but I'll repeat myself. Auto lockers work by two pieces of steel banging together, they need regular shimming if used in a daily driven rig, it shock loads the R&P, twists axle splines, destroys bearings, uni joints, backlash, makes queer noises on polished concrete, people standing near a round about with you approaching will dive for the bushes as they hear you diff bang and throw the car around. Next time your going around a round about, or long bend, drop a gear, rev it up and dump the clutch. Even better, do it on surprise or more then once Man I hate them. Especially In a swb. The only time I would ever not advertise against it is if your using it in the front. Less use, not a dependent on cars performance. Anyway, do as you like, I would just say spool or Airlocker are the best locking solutions.

ah okay. well they re-use the thrust washer in the spider gears... maybe thats what you are referring to? the spartan doesnt use/need them. The instructions leave them out.

I have a vitara with a spool and a auto locker in a lwb Sierra and would prefer to drive with the auto locker every time.
Driving a car that leans into a corner is very off putting which is what the vitara did with the spool. My wife also daily drove the Sierra with the auto locker and thought is was funny seeing pedestrians panic due to the noise.

I watched my first re shimming of a lock rite today, not as hard as I imagined. Lock rite definately has smaller pins and springs than my Spartan, but looks identical otherwise

I like to hear both sides of the argument, and believe me, youve made my decision that much harder now. (which is fine, i asked for it) But how is putting one in a Sierra different to a Jimny? Also, have you had one in your own car? and what car was that? what sort of driving? again, dont take it the wrong way, but it sounds like... in your own words... hating. I agree airlocker is the BEST solution as well, but i dont have a budget of 1500+ to get one fitted. (and before we get in a debate about labor costs on that, just take it from me ARB townsville really enjoy ripping people off)

I have done over 20,000 k's since I fitted the locker, still works perfectly with no noises. If the aren't setup properly, of course they aren't going to work properly, but it's not the locker's fault!

I had one in a swb tin top Sierra, it had 33s and 6.5s. the reason I made the point was that sierra's and jimny's are totally different, a Sierra you can put up with the noise of the banging because the noisy tcase and small hole in the muffler equal out. If you ran one in a Jimny it would be very very noticeable noise and how it performs + everything I said before.

I read quite some time ago, can't remember who wrote it or where, that the coil suspension seemed to transfer a lot more feedback and noise than the leaf suspension. Wait to fit until after Fraser and we can discuss it around the campsite

yeah was planning on that nutter! @31zook. Do you have any examples of them destroying drivelines and twisting splines like you said previously? Ive been looking around a HEAP of forums over the last 24 hours and seen no mention of any crazy damage like that. EDIT If I go ahead with this, ill probably go with this mob, anyone dealt with them before? http://www.ronsmachiningservice.net/suzuki-2/Final cost $270 with express delivery to Aus.

My short side axle has twisted splines, but any form of locker will do that. Other than that I haven't had any of the above issues.

The spartan has bigger pin and bigger single spring.
