Really depends on the price then... What about the side wall on both? one better then the other?

I'd imagine construction is the same as Bighorn. And grip.. they're both kinda small. Bighorns have little blades, Treps have little staggered squares.
Much of a muchness really..

Can someone explain how backspace and offset work? Please? I've been searching for wheels for most of the week and myself and Anto86 can't work out what the hell is going on with some of the measurements quoted on wheels. As we understand it, backspace is from the inside edge of the rim to the mounting surface. Offset (in our case negative offset) is how far from the centre of the rim the mounting surface is, with negative being a shift inboard with the mounting surface and positive being a shift outboard. Now I get to the question, I completely understand when I look at Dank's thread about the kpd beadlocks being an 8 inch wheel with -25mm offset which creates 3 inches of backspace. That works out and it's easy. What I can't understand is how 7 inch procomp -38 offset wheels can have 2.5 inches of backspace. Because 7 inches of rim, take away 2.5 inches of backspace, leaves 1 inch to the centre of the rim which would be a -25 offset not -38 as stated. Are we getting the maths wrong? Are the tables wrong? All -38 offset 7 inch wide wheels are quoting a 2.5 inch backspace so I must be calculating something wrong. If anyone knows what the hell is going on here let us know! http://www.procomp.com.au/Default.asp?MenuId=WHEEL_005215x7 5x5.5 -38mm 2.5" backspace WTF? Thanks in advance.

Did you forget about the 12mm of steel ( not 12mm of steel but with pressing some shape and wheel stud hole bit) that they need for the centre???? 13mm = 1/2 inch. Its not the centre of the centre its the bolt up face to the rear of the rim

No I didn't forget about that bit, I was hoping I did but I still can't make it work, from the bolt up face to the rear of the rim they say is 2.5" backspace. Which would then have the bolt up face 1" from the dead centre of the 7" rim (3.5" halves) which is clearly not -38mm of offset.
OR am I still doing it wrong? 2.5" backspace would be -38mm on an 8" rim because it would have the extra 0.5" between the bolt up face and the centre of the rim, but it just doesn't add up for a 7" rim/wheel...

Backspace Method: Measure from the extreme rear edge of the rim to the hub mounting face. Distance "A" in millimetres. Centreline Method: Measure the overall width of rim (Distance “X”), halve this measurement to find centreline then measure backspace (Distance “A”). Subtract “B” from “X/2” and you now have the centreline offset, which in Australia is written 35P or 10N to denote either positive or negative centreline offset. In Europe, centreline offset is usually written ET35 or ET-10 etc. NOTE: The centreline offset measurement is “rim width dependant”, ie. as the width of the rim changes, so does the centreline offset, eg. if you have 14 x 6 wheels with 47P offset and would like to fit 14 x 7 alloys with the same backspace, then the same offset in 14 x 7 is 35P. In both instances, the backspace remains at 135mm.

Okay my last post was wrong
Look at backspace. It is to the back of the rim.
The 7 inch part is measured at a different point. It is measured where the tyre bead sits not the extreme parts of the rim
Off set is the point the bolt up face is away from the centre line

Yes this is what I was trying to find out! So the 7" rim is actually a little wider physically but the bead seats are 7" apart, this accounts for the difference, cheers for the help!

Browsing in Costco on the way home today I found D697 Duelers in 205/70/15 for $538 a set of 4 fitted after discount, anyone know if any other tyre retailer will come anywhere near that?
They seem like a good enough tyre for some semi regular forest fire trail bush bashing? No beach, all bush but also commuting 25km a day.
And Costco do puncture repairs for the life of the tyre and a free balance and rotate every 10,000km.
Cheers,
Tony

I can get 4 x Micky Thompson MTZ's 31"x 10.5 x 15. Have approx 30% tread left for $150 total...
I currently have 235/75/15 AT tyres.. are these worth getting just for offroad use?

i'd buy them for $150, you can't go wrong... if not i'll give you money for them & i'll run them on my trailer
the micky T's are renown for having wafer thin sidewalls

I cut an AT on my first biggish trip with them brand new.... side walls suck balls...
Ill only get them to fit for about... 3months.. I mainly want them for trimming my guards and to see how my car goes with 31's (gearing ect)
Ill give you them for free atari when i get the new tyres? These will only be use when i go offroad... Some ill maybe only use them 4-5 times hahaha

If the BFG AT's are that low, don't do it! They're possibly one of the scariest tyres on a wet road with half tread let alone even less.

You should get 4 31s in the car with the seats down. Leave your spare at home and bolt one on the back if it's too crammed (deflate it completely so it can sit on the bumper.

After peoples opinions on Baja claws? Have been told they are not so good on the sides of hills, that they want to slide sideways because of thr tread pattern. I'm looking at getting these in 31" for my sierra next.
