hi all. im FINALLY up to the point where i need to make a jack shaft to mate my tojo 3sp auto to my wt transfer case.

i have the uni's from the gearbox end of the tojo and the transfer case end from the zook.

now my plan/ idea is to machine a bit of round bar so the male part of each of the uni's (the part that sticks into the tube) will fit into the round bar.

this way it will be centred and pretty well balanced.

my question is, will this work or is there something im overlooking? and... will it matter that the 2 uni's are different sizes?

progress mate good stuff! Here's my jackshaft I got made up. I took in my sierra jackshaft and the rear output for the tojo 3spd auto and got a driveline specialist who deals with V8 supercars to make up mine. its cost me $300 bucks but its fully balanced and machine welded and has serviceable unis.

If you want the name of the place I can get it for you although you'd probably be able to fnd someone nearby penrith to do yours. I wouldn't stuff around with it, its probably one of the single most important driveline components there is.

x2! Unless you know what you are doing, you're better off paying someone. Last thing you want is to have a jack shaft up ya bum!!

im running a small port 4age which came out of a FWD corolla and a RWD 3sp auto.... (traumatic)

i spoke with one of our draftsman who jus tso happens to haev studied automotive engineering and believes thats as long as the piece i was planning on machining is done true and square it should work fine, all of the drive shafts he has made before have turned out fine and thinks my idea should be ok.

so i will give it a go and let you guys know how it turns out.

What is the auto out of ? something rear wheel drive with a 4AC I guess. I will post a pic of the one in my nissan powered LJ and one from a 4AGE+T50 in a Sierra for you tommorrow.

well i got the joining section machined over the weekend and welded it together today.

machined with a nice snug fit, clamped together to kee pit square while tacking and welded at 140 amps for high penetration.

no sight of weld deformities from welding to the cast as i kept some of the old weld on the yoke ot weld to.

cost = $0... but we will see if i get what i paid for
