im a nissan man at heart but love the versatility of the small suzukis, so will probably be of nissan origin of similar size with a snail on it, just want a bit more grunt with a bit more reliability, been reading up on others problems with there G16's and mine has succumbed to a similar fate, was toying with the idea of a conversion instead of fixing the 16b.

putting a turbo engine in a vitara will not lead to a reliable car.

Only option is to fit a steel GV housing and 3rd. Your next issue will be the size of the R&P. Much smaller than vit rear, so even if you address CV strength, the front centre is still the weakest link.
Like you said though, may just come down to how its driven.
Personally I like the idea of 130kw in a vitara.

will not be an sr20, they crack as often as g16b's, will be its little bit smaller in size but stronger older brother though and should fit easier and i have cheap easy access to engines and spares and know them pretty well. besides they dont have that crap monotonal drone of an exhaust note that an sr has they actually sound good on boost.

In my opinion, don't waste your time trying to adapt a CA18 to a vitara gearbox. Nissan gearboxes are plentiful, easily adaptable to a navara or patrol transfer case, and already strong enough for the torque. Why you'd spend time and money adapting a nissan motor to a 5 speed gearbox (and clutch) that isn't as strong as nissan intended to put behind that motor is a bit puzzling.
In my opinion, the point of gearbox adapters are to bolt a desirable engine to a desirable gearbox. I don't think a vitara gearbox is desirable with 200Nm in front of it.
Just my 2C.

Steve. Vitara 5sp will easily take that torque. A J20 drops 165Nm through the exact same gearbox that is fitted infront of the G16B. I honestly believe that the vit 5sp should handle 250Nm reliably. The clutch may be a problem though.

Making a custom adapter/flywheel/clutch setup is a lot of messing around to find out it won't though, considering how cheap/available nissan stuff is though, don't you think?
For argument's sake, if the OP was talking about an engine with no RWD gearbox availability, then it might be worth making an adapter for the FWD engine into the vitara gearbox. However, considering there's a number of off-the-shelf nissan gearboxes that are all rated for at least the torque of the CA18 sitting in wreckers right now, surely it's just an expensive experiment for the sake of it?

Steve I agree with you completely Steve. Its the wrong gearbox for an SR or CA motor. The OP hasn't really mentioned with any specificity which engine he will be using. I was just adding my thoughts on the vitara gearbox, should he land on a more suitable engine choice than the nissan monsters mentioned above. I vote he fit a 2JZ and be done with it.

sorry guys cheers for your input scrapped this idea as in no few words was shite! started a new thread, and sorry fatzook but said i was a nissan man at heart not a toyota man, although anyone who says that the 2jz is not one of the strongest oem donks ever built is a fukwit, but cannot go past the scream of an rb26 on boost at 9 grand with external gate. but none the less 2jz is still king of strength, 2 diffrerent engines with power made in 2 totally different ways.

A member starting with pig is doing the conversion. He used a r30 skyline gearbox which is the shortest stronger datsun box and a s3 bluebird bell housing bolts on and is of the ca engine series. i can measure you up one, a ca18 and a r31 gearbox (both later boxes are same internals but r31 has a shiifter closer to the engine.

Yep. Just don't get swept up in the rice of it all. If you are such a die hard nissan fan, why not buy an RB30 GQ patrol and drop an RB26DETT top end onto the 30 bottom end. Atleast the driveline will be able to keep up with the power.

cheers wazz thanks for all that, have done a few ca's in bluebirds using all sorts of datsun/nissan bits and pieces over the years, and fatzook did look for one of them for a very long time, very hard to find still have a look every now and then but still no rb variants, besides i like zooks, light as and go anywhere just need a little more engine reliability theres been a fair few people on here with the same issues with 16b's as of late so was just tossing up options and was gonna go with something that is tryed and tested to myself thats all.
