they seem to work ok the time's i've used them... the 2 that are on my trailer have done quite a few kms & have held up to 8hr's on the road at highway speeds.
wouldn't recommend them for daily tyres. they're pretty heavy & the 235/75r15 is the size of a 31" tyre when new

OK so we bought said Costco Duelers today and the guy who served us gave us (quite rightly IMO) the SUV discount of $70 rather than the passenger one of $50 (these discounts end later this month), so they ended up only $517.something. They don't seem to have the whirry road noise my old BFG All Terrain TA tyres had on my Range Rover (my last 4WD) is this because they're a different tyre or because the Jimny is lighter or a combination of both? They seem OK so far (value for money) but we haven't been offroad yet with them to give them a performance review. Cheers, Tony MisterTee wrote: Browsing in Costco on the way home today I found D697 Duelers in 205/70/15 for $538 a set of 4 fitted after discount, anyone know if any other tyre retailer will come anywhere near that?
They seem like a good enough tyre for some semi regular forest fire trail bush bashing? No beach, all bush but also commuting 25km a day.
And Costco do puncture repairs for the life of the tyre and a free balance and rotate every 10,000km.
Cheers,
Tony

I liked the idea of a 225/70 only because I can get a coopers at3 in that size. I like coopers they have always worked really well for me. However if the size is no good for a stock/slightly lifted jimny then I won't peruse the idea an go for something else in a 215/75

The 75 series tyres are LT types and are designed to carry a load, the 70 series tyres are a passenger tyre and will be a much smoother ride.

Most 4WD tyres with a 75 profile will be a light truck tyre. Passenger car sizes will still be a passenger tyre. There are exemptions but just look for a P225/70R15 rather than a LT215/75R15 They will have a higher load rating the 75 profile tyres(generally). This in turn will make them "stiffer" but does not mean they will have stronger sidewalls or construction. if you look at this list for BFG in the size it starts with LT being LT http://www.bfgoodrich.com.au/product-ra ... -4x4-tyre/where as the cooper 225/70R15 is a passenger construction. http://www.coopertires.com.au/index.php ... tyre_id=14Now don't get me wrong I love BFG and detest coopers but that's not what this is about. Its about getting you an all round tyre you will be happy with that will still keep the quality road manners of the vehicle you like now without sacrificing off road grip.

Why dont you like the coopers? I think im down to 4 choices so far: BFG A/T 215/75/15 -$265 fitter, balanced etc Maxxis MT-753 215/75/15 - $275 205/75/15 - $230 Coopers A/T3 220/70/15 - ~$280 I know you said to steer clear of the 215's due to stiffness but i dont mind a stiff one or 4........ and there seems to be a bit more available in this size at least the ones i like the look of anyway. Anyone got any feelings one way or another with those three or have i completely missed the mark and there are much better a/t's out there. some road, some sand, some gravel/rock not much mud for me hence the a/t and not an m/t. Thanks for your help and any suggestions. will be looking to get these in the next few months. Cheers Dan

Just wondering were you get your info about LT construction, not being stronger in the sidewall ? I prefer an off road tyre to have LT construction, yes they are stiffer, which means they dont squirm as much on road, and for me, they dont get damaged as much off road, but i thought a LT tyre was stronger in the sidewall, compared to non LT's...

Why I hate coopers is because of there poor warranties. I used to see tyres with belt edge separation and you could see the steel belts just starting to poke through the tread and they would not warrant the tyres. They would take them off one car if someone would complain and then give them to someone else. This problem has been fixed but I am someone who will hate shit forever. There is a kid ( he would be 40 now but that's beside the point) from my primary school who is still on my "list"
Other people had a lot of trouble with the tyres having chunks fall out of the tread, others with blowouts and then their is there ludicrous 80000 km guarantee which says you have to get the tyres rotated and balanced every 5000 kms and a wheel alignment every 10000 kms BY A REGISTERED COOPER AGENT or your warranty is void. even if the tyres last 75000 kms you only get a % of tyre wear missed out on off a new tyre not a new tyre for free. Its basically crap, cause you pay so much extra for their wheel alignments and balances. Don't get me wrong rotating tyres is what you should do, just having to get them done by specific people at an inflated price is what I am against.
And Macdaddy about the sidewall, there is only ever 2 cords or 3 cords in a sidewall. Unless you get a truck tyre (16 ply rating tyre) then there may be 4 cords or a steel cord. Even 8 ply tyres rags or bias don't have 8 ply's they are an 8 ply RATING nowdays so they never have 8 ply's in them.
Sure there may be more rubber but that wont make the sidewall stronger. The sidewall is designed to hold the tread to the bead so it can keep the air inside the tyre.
At the tyre store I worked at for ten years we used to cut the sidewalls out of the tyres so the we could dump them in landfill cheaper. We would just use a stanley knife. I have cut up 1000's of tyres and have seen that they are all pretty much the same. there was no real extra on anything UNLESS it was an armourguard tyre ( extra layer of rubber on the side for protection.) and that was only on industrial tyres anyway.

Interesting. I'll have to let my boss know about some of that info! I work out on a dairy farm and the boss has had a set of cooper STMAX on his cruiser ute for about 4months now and he's already complaining how SHIT they are. Loud, wearing incredibly fast, wobbles (yes, all his wheel weights are still on the rims). Didn't know personally it had to be done by a registered cooper agent. He basically bought them because of the warranty and the ads on TV. I recommended he go maxxis or something else other then COOPERS

Yeah that peas me off about what suzukis are classed! They should be classed as 4x4's they have the minimum clearance and all minimums for being classed as a 4x4 so why arnt they, There also not a Soft Rider so to speak as there on a truck base. Need to start a RAlly WE ARE NOT THE SAME AS A RAV4 or HONDA CRV!!!!

NCOP pic I am just wondering how many Zooks would be classed as SUV's, and the " But do not include compact SUV's " would apply... If they're registered as vans, utilities and trucks like they usually are, surely they cant be classes as an SUV?

We're looking at BF Goodrich KM2's in 33x10.5x15 for ~$290 each from tempetyres, the 31's are cheaper than that again. I was going to get claws until I got talked into going bigger and km2's so we can actually drive distances on the road.

$290 sounds really cheap for the KM2's from what I know. Is that a special deal or just their normal price? My mate had them in 32" on his cruiser and from memory they performed really well.

For a 33" that's insanely cheap for a KM2. Must be running out the old ones with the new series on the way...
You should be able to find Bighorns or Treps in a 31" for under $300.

The KM2's at that price are a grey import. No different to buying through tirerack.com really. Tempe just bring in container loads at a time. So Tempe can add their markup and it is still cheaper than what you can get elsewhere.
Also that 290 is delivered from Sydney to the Gold Coast.

Alright so I got prices from my mate at bob jane on 3 tyres thar are in my interest.
BAJA CLAW TTC - $305 KM2 - $280 Trepador - $255
All 31x10.5 r15. Obviously the Treps stand out to me because of the price and aggresive tread pattern but what do you guys reckon?
