Ok peeps, I've just had a new windscreen fitted & want to buy some new blades & over the years I've had a few random good sets & a heap of rubbish ones like the ones that are in it at the moment.

So what have you used or what do you recommend?

I try to get the basic single edge ones or maybe the 3 edge at the most. I find the fancy ones, graphite coated etc are just shit after a while. Don't know brands.

I've heard good things about the 'Rain-X' wiper blade range. The rain-x glass treatment that repells water is awesome stuff, even with cheap shitty wiperblades the window is nice and streak free when it's raining and mud/dirt washes clean off.


edit - I haven't seen the rain-x blades in any local shops, my mate had to buy some online.

Dont they do another "thing in a bottle" treatment for the inside as well? anti-fog or something maybe? anyway, its good shit.

I am a big fan of the triple edge Silicone Wiper Blades... they dont make that screeching noise across the windscreen...

Buy brand new arms (genuine) as well so you get the spring tension on the windscreen. Then go get a brand new wiper blade holder from super cheap and just use the standard wiper rubber. I have tried most of them and have come back to standard ones again.
The multi wiper blades like this _\|/_ are shit as they get crap caught in them easy then leave a line and they also create more drag making the wipers not work so well
The twins squeak like a mother fucker and get shit caught between them
Just keep the rubber ones clean and they work oarsome
And use a windscreen cleaner additive in your squirter bottle.

replace at the first sign of not working or every 6 months

all those other fancy things always play up and silicone is too strong, if you get mud on there rubber will tear rather than scuffing crap all over the screen and scratching it

I've found its different for every windscreen shape... the ones tzar mentioned are shit on flat suzuki windscreens but seem to work better on curved windows. personally i prefer the twin blade wipers with the parallel blades.

+1 on the new wiper holders and trico blades.

I tip a little bit of auto glass cleaner in the washer bottle too to help things along and the blades dont drag.

I've always prefered the metal backed blades to the plastic ones, they seem to wipe better for longer

X2. Twin blades for the Sierras - IMO they wipe mud off better, Single for the Vit to suit the curvature of the glass better.

the AC Delco aurt6 wiper blades are excellent and pretty reasonably priced just go into any holden dealer, though you may need to change the arms to suit the higher back wiper blades, an excellent mod for me

I won't use rain-x on windscreens. It's fine on side and rear windows, and effective, and it's not bad on shower screens, but on a windscreen, I find it's great right up until you hit the wipers, and then the wipers don't work as well - it kind of makes the water "smear" over the screen which is more annoying than not having rain-x and having to use the wipers more.

I also find you have to keep it up or the glass gets kind of smeary.

I've tried it in the past, and we now use a carwash that runs a rain-x rinse and the wipers are rubbish until it's worn off.

OEM spec blades (wurth, delco etc) for me. No gadgets or other tricks.

I have no problem with RainX on the windscreens - I even use their screenwasher additive to keep it applied - it may depend on where & how you drive though. My preference for a blade is the RainX Latitude, which is a graphite impregnated silicone blade in the new "beam" style - it holds the wiping element at an even pressure across the entire length, something that the older "bridge" designs don't.
