Name a few who have done it. What went wrong? You kinda smell like a web wheeler

Don't believe everything you read.

While they are obviously not the best motor to turbo it can be done with good results. People were saying that the Gti motor was no good to turbo back n the day. Now there are heaps of them.

Teamswift/redline gti have plenty to read on turbo conversions http://www.teamswift.net/viewtopic.php?t=12325
These guys are a bit more crazy and run much higher boost levels. The bottom end was the first bit to fail but could also be due to poor tuning/detonation. I'm happy to be wrong but to turbo a g16b is expensive to do properly.

No doubt it can be made reliable with moderate boost and money spent on the right areas. It's not just the engine though this is for an LJ so it's a whole other level of making a gearbox fit/driveline mods.

Under the picture he wrote: This is from 2 years of constant abuse, detonation and what not. Still using stock pistons and I would probably reuse this set if the twisted rod hadn't knocked a piece out of the cylinder which broke the piston.

i brought a banged up comp car, with 15k worth of reciepts for the engine locally. then had the engine freshened up, and put it into a fresh gun metal vit soft top. just finished it really, had the steel diff put in it with some sort of locker. new cvs, avm hubs etc, pretty much a new car these days. goes great, going to run it down the quater mile shortly.

it will pull a mid 13 id say, raced a fg xr6t ute today and beat him lol
