I have done a search here and have not seemed to find an answer to my question. I am looking at getting a roof basket that can hold a roof tent, but it weighs in at 55-60kg alone, without any added extras. Just wondering how much weight the rails/racks can carry (Rola roof-racks fitted)? Thanks!

The factory limit is pretty low - 90lbs from memory - having said that, there is a difference between static loads (car stationary) and dynamic loads (car moving), and folks have used roof top tents on the GV, far exceeding the static load limit. A search for roof top tents should turn up something - if not here, try it in the GV section over at the Suzuki forums.

The Rola cross bars are rated at 50kg
If the tent you get is the fold out one then you should be ok. Ratings are crash ratings and you don't go in the tent while your driving - I will have to dig up a pic I have oh a Gv with the tent.

 WOW!! I love this forum - responses are so bloody quick!! Well my GV already has the rola roof racks. The only thing that I am concerned with is the structural integrity. So will the rails be able to hold a greater load if I upgrade the racks (90kg variety)? Basically I guess I am getting at - what is the maximum weight that the rails can support? From this I can work out appropriate racks, cage and accessories. Thanks again you wonderful people

As fordem said its static weight eg the weight spread accros the area. If get the 90KG bars and put the rollas in the middle in theory you should have a static weight of around say 140KG. Im not sure how much the factory rails can support but they do seem quite strong and ive had alot on the roof before including myself. 85KG + stuff. A roof top tent spreads its load across a area. If have four rails depending on tent you may be able to just mount the tent straight on the rails saving you the cost of the expensive steel rack. We need guys with roof top tents to help out

   This tent was u bolted directly to the rails buy zuk1990. it worked well for him but the fuel was bad with it on. to my knowledge he had it for a few years with no issues.

Static weight is with the vehicle 'static' - parked - stationary - not moving. Dynamic weight is with the vehicle in motion. If you have the vehicle parked on a reasonably level surface (I would not expect you to be setting up camp with the vehicle on a slope), you can safely have 45kgs of roof top tent + 2 x 90Kg of persons on the roof - but - 225ks of mass that high up on a vehicle travelling at 100km/h will have a dramatic effect on it's stability - in the event of a sudden swerve or similar evasive/emergency manouver, there is a distinct possibility of a roll over, likewise negotiating a side slope or off camber turn.

According to the user book I've got the roof load limit is 45kg in total. So if your bars plus basket weighs in at 10kg then you can put 35kg in the basket. That's for the SQ625 which is in the pics above. If you've got the updated shape GV  then I'm not sure of roof load limit The roof load limit will have many factors some of which fordem has written but also the strength of the roof, body etc to withstand cracking/damage due to the extra loads placed on the roof. All that being said I think it's well shown around the traps that a roof top tent will be OK so long as not too much more goes up there while your driving along. Be sensible with the stuff you put on the roof and I think you'll be fine
