I think fitting them will be slightly harder for me since when i got my exhaust replaced, rather than using bracket to hold them on, it got welded on. :/

What do you mean you got your exhaust welded on?
That's ludacris. Welded to what? the chasis?

I dont know of any exhaust shop who would do that.

I have a 96 Sierra with a G16A Vitara motor in it and a rebuilt carby, I seem to get about 250km until I fill up and it takes around 30L , I run 31" tyres though which puts my speedo out of whack so I'm not sure what the true KM reading would be

When i had my 89 SWB Vit, with Carby G16A, i had 215/75/15 AT's on it, and i still got 380kms on 95 Unleaded... if the Carby is tuned incorrectly, or old and worn, they will gussle down the fuel...
I would ring Suzistore about getting a 2nd hand exhaust manifold, i would think they would be under $100... as for the Carby, it would be best to get a reconditioned one, and just do a straight swap, but they arnt cheap, $300 to $400, but it would be the best option, Suzistore have them on the shelf...

Just an update with my fuel economy, actually been checking it and driving more recently. ive been doing a true 380km from 37L of 91 octane, 1990 G16a with 5.12s, standard transfer and 30in ATs, engine is fresh though less then 20k since rebuild, unknown last rebuild of carby but I've tuned it with the 4 gas myself, and given a good dose of cleaner through it, so from this i should be pretty happy with my fuel economy

Only thing I did was change the seal on the rocket gasket cover? It stopped using so much oil now too!

Thats still alot for a stock Vit... but at least the oil usage is down...

I'm running 31" Silverstone Extremes(measure 32"), extractors on g16a with overhauled carb.

I average 13-15 per 100km. I've never ran mine dry and I'm sure you wouldn't if you've seen the size of the idle jet.

Mind you I have a roof rack, roof basket, arb steel bar, recovery gear, winch, cal lift, 10lt water etc etc essentially turning my Vitara into a flying brick. 5th gear doesn't get much of a look on the highway.

I sit at 3500rpm in 4th at 100kmh with the extremes. With stockers I'm 3500rpm in 5th at 100kmh.

With stockers on I get 10lt per 100km.

For you bog stocker you should be able to get under 10lt per 100km no worries.

I see you've got a crook tank. Here's an easy way to gauge your fuel consumption. Top your tank up to full and once the bowser clicks full do not overfill. Go drive 100km then come back to the same bowser, fill her up and see what you've used.

I try not to run mine dry cause of the gunk it sucked up last time. Whats the idle jet? Havent heard of that yet.

I also have to get my rev meter fixed, as that has stop working completely now.

Now I'm getting about 10.5 litres per 100kms which is an improvement from 12. I am also getting extractors soon so those will also hopefully help once they go on.

Here's some info -

I've got a 96 SWB efi.
When it was stock as a rock I'd get 380-400kms from a full tank.
I noticed every mod I made I lost fuel consumption.

29" tyres and lift - Went down to about 350K's per tank
Roof basket - Went to about 340K's per tank
Lights on roof basket - went to about 330K's per tank
Put mud tyres on, Get about 300K's to a tank.

The tyres make a massive difference to fuel consumption, but if yours is stock as a rock, you should be getting about 400k's mate. This may not make much of a difference but You should clean your EGR. I found that I needed to accelerate harder before i cleaned it out as it was bogging downa little (EGR was totally blocked) but dont count on it giving you an extra 100kms per tank.

I'd rebuild the carby if i were you, and as for that 'black gunk' in your carby, thats not from your fuel tank mate.

I'm grappling with increased fuel consumption in my '94 SWB Vitara now. Bought it new in '94. I'm pretty sure it has a 45 litre fuel tank, and when it was young I got 450kms from 34 litres (my fill-up point). Now it varies, has been 380 kms, now it's above 400 kms most fills, and sometimes it's taking 35 or 36 litres at a fill.

Discovered one problem was the old fuel hoses to the fuel filter were perished and leaking (after an incredibly dodgy service at an ACT establishment) so we fixed that. Why they changed the fuel filter and not the cracked hoses I'll never know. The petrol stains in the carpark are pretty embarassing though.

Dodgy service people also said there was a float level error in the carby, so I'm collecting recommendations of people in the ACT area that know what carburettors are. The main carby mob moved to Murrumbateman which is no good, I live in country NSW, need car to get home!

There's an exhaust leak apparently, but I think that's just the standard exhaust pipe crack. Hope so anyway.

The wheels/tyres are the stock 205/75R 15s (weird size which makes getting new tyres always an interesting experience). Most of the car is stock, even the brakes!

Any leak in exhaust will cause numerous dramas. Engines just don't like leaking exhausts.

Id get that fixed as a priority over anythign carby related.

The only way this is remotely possible is if you have floating gunk in your tank (highly unlikely). Where does your tank usually suck the fuel from..... I believe you will find it sucks from the bottom
