quick question.. richy had a leaking headgasket since i got it (oil in water). it got Very hot yesterday wheeling (radiator hose called it a day in between tracks) , and just wondering if i should swap the head with my spare f10 or just get the current one checked over and planed up.. id prefer not to pay twice if there prone to it.

I've never seen a cracked F10 head. Get them both checked out and use the best one.

Not sure about F10 but every car you own has the same issues

x2 never seen or heard of one cracking.

The problem is usually corrosion. That's why mine had a blown head gasket.

If you've got a whole spare engine then just wack that in, easier than changing the head!

i bought richy with a "blown head gasket" to start with! so im not overly fussed!! even have a full gasket kit here all ready to go! i am actually pretty happy it lasted as long as it did!! id be pissed if i had fixed it and then the hose blew!

i will get the one off richy checked.. the other engine im Very sus about, going on the condition of the rest of the car!!!

oh but when i say hot... i mean along the lines of still boiling water in the block 20mins after shut off i filled up the water and it still drove fine the last few km and onto/off the car trailer so no Huge big end damage!

on a good note i have now done 120km offroad in richy!!

I daily drove mine for months with a BHG, it was fine except slowly losing more and more power.

Over 8 years, I blew 2 head gaskets, but never cracked a head.

Same as the others. Never seen an F10 crack a head. They still warp like G series heads do. But usually, the F10 will just lock the cam in the head.

Seen that happen. Haven't seen a cracked F10 head. I have heard of F10's that persistently do gaskets though.

looks like i have a cracked head!!
the head gasket didnt look all that bad, but replaced, head got checked with straight edge and cleaned, gasket put on with hyolamar (SP)
checked it today and yep still getting oil in water. Just want you want to see before a 4day 4wding trip.

well 2 cans of degreeser though the radiator and flushed 2000x and its clean.... looks like it was just residue!
will be taking some Chemi-weld with me tho just incase... never had that crap work but you never know!

ahhh sweet, got to love an easy fix.

i found that motor needs to be stinking hot before you put it in for it to work properly.

Yeah
to be honest i am trailering the zook away/home, so if it used a bit of water and needed to be topped up every hour or so no biggie, the issue is it was putting oil in the water that caused the radiator to get clogged up pretty quick and thats a game over, PIA fix on the side of the track!

I have used Chemi weld and Silver Seal, both work sometimes,
but Silver Seal has worked much better for me. Always carry it in the car.
Only ever use it in emergency, as it may block things up, though they claim it don't.

did you get the head pressure tested before you put it back on?

I refuse to put a head back on an engine unless its been pressure tested.
