My current manifold has a stripped out thread in it, so I bought some hurricane extractors for it, but I'm a little worried about heat they can generate. So I've come looking for advice on exhaust wrap, does it actually work for preventing heat? Does it make the extractors rust quicker? Any other pro's and con's?

Cheers :D

I exhaust wrapped my old extractors. The heat reduction was epic. You could lean against them after hard driving and they were barely warm.

Unfortunately the extractors rusted through after 18 months. The wrapping had captured all the moisture, mud etc and trapped it.
For this reason alone I won't use the stuff on a 4wd again.

Make a heat shield to deflect the heat away from sensitive components and grab some dynamat to insulate the cab, bonnet and firewall.

Dynamat sounds good! Looks expensive tho... I would be running it down the passengers side fire wall and a little on the floor...

If the inside of the car gets wet, how do I dry underneath it?

If the jaycar product is still relabelled "brown bread" brand, It has a much stronger smell and less tackiness than dynamat, especially when exposed to water.

Josh: I've got double layers of dynamat xtreme on my passenger side floor and firewall. And a single layer inside the remainder my my entire cab. Floor and firewall also have a layer of dynaliner over the top.

It's enough to step any feeling of heat from my exhaust.
I've drowned the car a couple of times in fresh water since applying it. I cut a section out to inspect the floor a few months back, there was no sign of any retained water.
It's all about how well you roll it in the curves to seal it. You can also get dynatape to seal the edges if you're paranoid.

I spent a few years as a pro audio installer at a reputable workshop. After using most brands available dynamat is the only one I'll recommend.

Dynamat it Is then! I'm guessing repco/supercheap type shops sell it...

Hey matt, how much would your mate cost to ceramic coat my extractors?

good to hear actual feedback, i've used the jaycar stuff in small sections great with success. haven't used the dynamat stuff though, would be nice to do a whole cab. 8)

Haha yeah, I was looking at a set of 30x9.5HT's the other day to cut down on tyre noise...

But to be honest, who knows, I might never even feel there is a difference In the heat and this could of all been for nothing

i want to do the insides of my rear wheel arches, the drawers in the shorty did a pretty good job of quieting the hum of the tyres down.

I never had a problem with them heating the cab, the engine bay and anything in the surrounding area used to cook. There's a black line on my radiator overflow from where it heated up and he ac line was pressed against it

I reckon a decent heatshield in the engine bay (not as dodgy as mine ;) ) and maybe ceramic coating them and you'll be fine :)

That's another thing I guess, stopping the heat well before it gets to the body. Kinda like an inner-Vs-outer sun protector on a windscreen.
