I'm going for 27" tyers to 31" is there any major things I need to fit them

No seriously... its been asked and responded to so many times...

to make a valid reply... heres a quick check list off the top of my head....

wheels with appropriate offset to suit the possibly now wider tyre and to avoid spring grabbing..
massaged your firewall?
cut off the front bumper outer supports?
setup bumpstops accordingly?
xfer gears...(while not a fitment factor, hope you dont mind babying if you are on a stock xfer) yes a stock 1.3 will work, drove mine for over 12 months on a stock, but consider a 1.0xfer(can be picked up cheap enough) as a minimum if you plan on getting some driving satisfaction..
flares/extensions to now cover a wider track distance?
shackles may help in making them physically fit.. but wont do much other than that without work in other places.. ie RUF..

Do you actually have the 31's yet ? If not go on a powerlines run with the guys off here and get them to show you what your car can currently do and what needs to be done to it.

Iv been to by the machanic in my club rock crawler
gears and bigger tyers is all I probably need to do

Your mechanics probably just wants your money, I am always impressed with how well stock/near stock zooks go. May I suggest learning to drive it well before getting the upgrades, and once you find the limits then look at possibly upgrading the tyres and suspension.

I hav a beach run in a week ok so I want some nice fat tyres to cruise on the sand
And he's not my mechanic he is a guy in the club plus he talked me out of going to a 1.6l engine and a spoa kit so hes pretty good by me

just let down your stock tyres, you really dont need bigger rubber for what your doing

If you need bigger tyres to drive a beach then you mustn't have any skills - a Sierra on 205/70 or 215/75R15 with under 15PSI in the tyres is very capable on a beach.

P.S. narrower tyres are better than wide ones when it comes to sand... big tyres without gears will also make your vehicle less capable than a stocker!

Jake, I know you're new around here, I know you're on an iPod not a real computer, and I know your spelling sucks.

However,

You have to help us to help you. If you can't type a detailed question (or do lots of research, or both), you're never, ever going to get a meaningful answer, and people are just going to stir you up, like atari, who is trying his hardest

I think that with 5" of lift you shouldn't need to do anything more (suspension wise) to fit 31's. In fact, I'd say your car is already much taller than it needs to be. I don't know anything about how your car is setup, but I reckon it would handle better and feel much more stable with less lift in it. I'd get the tyres on the car, flex it up a bit, and see how much you could lower the car.

Remember tyres add lift too, so going from 27" to 31" lifts your car another 2"

You're going to need reduction gears of some sort. 31's and standard gearing is pretty crappy to drive on and off road. You'll wreck the clutch pretty quickly.

If I were you, I'd join a club too. If you're new to 4WDing you might be making some beginners mistakes with driving and setting up your car. It's best to go on some trips with other suzuki owners so you get steered in the right direction. There's lots of good information on here, but it's not the same as talking to someone experienced and watching them drive.

Jake go to imageshack, register using your email address, then take some clear detailed pics of your car, upload them to imageshack and then post the links here. Imageshack doesn't require any app you should be able to upload straight off your iPod.

Most people upgrade transfer gears. Most people would buy their gears from Low Range Offroad in the US.

Most people will opt for between 4.9 to 6.5:1 low range ratio for 31" tyres. High range ratio will be adjusted slightly also to better suit large tyres.

Jake, can you see how we're finding this a bit frustrating? Pezz wrote the very first reply to you and mentioned you were going to need gears. If you were already getting them, it would have saved us mentioning it again.

Same as the lift - if you'd mentioned you had 5" of lift from the outset, you would have had a really good answer immediately.
