Hey guys

Looking at buying a wt sierra. The rear uni joint snapped and the guy put it in four high and just drove it with fwd. Wondering g if this will badly affect the front diff or transfer?.

The transfer and front diff are made to work like that so I can't see any real harm being done.... HOWEVER... If old mates idea of a repair or maintenance is to just remove the rear shaft then I'd be thinking twice about buying a car from him.

jas has a good point its just plain lazy a uni joint is only about 30 dollars and take about 5 mins to change it

in the Vit, do you still have your swaybar on???

i tried this once & it was a total dog to drive with no swaybar felt like the wheels were going to rip the front control arms off the chassis.

Vit yes but not in a Sierra

Normally, I'd agree but for $700 sierra that's running, licenced and good interior that is almost unheard of in WA.

i drove mine in FWD when i broke my tailshaft... other than it squatting heaps under acceleration it was perfectly fine... i still wasnt 100% happy doing it given that the front axles are a lot weaker than the rears though. I doubt it would do any significant damage, if anything at least you know the front diff / hubs etc are all working well =)

for $700 you'd be able to buy it, fix it a flip it for a profit guaranteed!

narh suspected rear lock(very)wrong fucked, rear tailshaft spinning but no drive to axels.

was driving along, backed off throttle went to squeeze back on and just revved out no drive

locked the hubs and called it good for now.

i was having issues while wheeling both rear wheels with plenty of traction and only one getting drive, thats why i think its the locker. probably snapped the pins or somesheit

also no swaybar attached and drives like a FWD with no swaybar still gets me to work

I drove my Sierra around in FWD when my tailshaft snapped, was certainly different. The lift off oversteer on gravel was pretty fun.

More than anything it showed me how awesome front digs would be, even though I had no independent rear brakes (like line locks or the hand brake on a WT) I could pretty much turn on the spot on a low traction surface.

Driving in FWD can't hurt anything.

Drove my Sierra on fwd for a while, was no fun with an auto locker up front.
