Unless you are using the hilux transfer there is no advantage in buying the hilux either. Still going to link it, change the motor, upgrade the diffs, etc. At least when you do it to a Sierra it looks cool.

But what you really want is a trol with a big boosted TB48

Mine is too . It really is a great way to get out there and it was a lot of fun. With a strong winch it was competitive. Doesn't need to be huge to run in comps.

Dan I think you should do a bit of reading on a lot of different cars, go to a few more comps and talk with the drivers. If you can find a sierra in a comp then talk to the owner. Most of the guys are happy to talk about their car and give you a few hints, in the lunch break at my first comp a guy from the crowd came over with his sierra and we sussed out his idling problem and told him how to fix it .

You'll need more than a 4 point cage to race in most events these days and if you ever do need it you will be glad it is there. There's no real need to extend the chassis out on a stockman if you are going coils as there is a lot of unused chassis at the back from the leaves. 33's will be too small for comp use on bigger diffs and you won't keep sierra diffs together behind the V6. I'd agree with appsie to run the rover case too.

I understand your point zook fan, but if you're going to take a stockman, stretch it, run hilux diffs, and a hilux transfer, what's the advantage of starting with a Sierra?

Years ago I remember someone asking Sandy Bowman, who runs Aus4wd, if he was really into his Nissans (it was a rhetorical question ) Sandy's answer was gold

"I like toyota's, I f*cking hate Nissans, that's why I comp them."

Have a good think about that. There's more there than is apparent.

Absolutely no advantage at all. It may be slightly cheaper though. Hilux diffs don't run all that much for a pair, transfers aren't dear and you'd have to remount it due to the V6 anyway. But if you're about to start a comp build that difference in price won't equate to much in the long run. I know this isn't a valid argument for advantages but I'm in the crowd that would rather come midfield in something I've built and is different to the majority of the cars there than win in a V8 Patrol with more winch motors then pistons which comprises three quarters of the field. If I ever get on top in my own creation I will be a happy man. I also enjoy the challenge of packing it into my favourite four wheel drive car.

I do like that reply though, the philosophy behind it is quite ingenious
