hey guys is there any cheap way of tightening the fron diff of these car
dont wanna spend too much money on this car as i have other cars
didnt go too well in the sand and was gonna buy a locker but got outbidded
called a diff shop n said is there a way to shim them n he said no cause its n open diff

what tyre preasure did you run on the sand?
what tyre size do you have?
were you in high or low range?

Did you let the tyre pressures down? Stock Vitaras usually do well in sand.

i had another thread talking about lockers
but yes i ran 15psi on the sand, big 31's with brand new tread
was in low range
did everything properly but mainly rwdrove
the guy i got this car off never used 4wd since new so wen i first went to lock 4wd in it didnt engage. cause the lock spring didnt connect properly but greased that up and works fine off road but not in sand. would sitl like a bit more front grip in dirt tho

I use to run 12 in the rear and 10 in the front with 30's on my old vitara.

Drove in 2wd unless I was attempting a dune climb. That car rocked at the beach.

Define 'tighter'?

There are no LSD options that I know of.

For cheap get an auto locker if you can live with it - opinion is split on here - or a chinasoong air locker. Otherwise fork out for an ARB jobbie.

You'll really want to upgrade to a steel front diff and get the locker in that, otherwise you'll be spending money on a diff that's on borrowed time anyway, and just end up spending more money replacing it before long anyway.

last one i found was $600 2nd hand, not exactly a common item... i suggest air down to 11-12psi & learn to drive it.

+ banana peels Pezz... did you happen to have a HT holden at any stage?

i imagine they'd be a heap easier to install, trying to jam banana peels through the oil hole gets a bit annoying after the 3rd one.

I have a stock SWB efi vit and it spends 80% of its life on sand.
Seems to handle it well so far.
I also use a D4D turbo 3.0 ltr Dual Cab Hilux. Sure, the hilux has heaps of power and low down torque, but the vit kills it in the sand.
I run 10psi in stock tyres and it goes good.
Just make sure your hubs are locked in. This has caught me out a few times.

A carby Vit could have difficulty turning the 31's, especially if motor is tired.
As could a EFI if tired, but less so
