just curious on how i would go about hard wiring my gps to switched 12v power in my sierra

anyone done this before?

Easy as mate, depending on what charger connection your GPS has just get a hard wiring kit off good ol ebay.

If it is just mini-usb like the vast majority, just get something like:

All you need to do is tap into a switched 12v power (ciggy lighter/stereo etc).

I tapped into the a accessories 12v power at the back of the cigarette lighter and installed a 12v power outlet on the side of the dash.. There was just the right amount of space between the dash and the door.. No need to run the charger cable across the dash!!

I run the GPS off it most of the time but can plug anything in there if I need to.. Easy to do and works a treat!!

I'll see if I can post a pic, I have trouble doing that most of the time :-/
