Argh update time!
So I got my Chinasoong RD88 and took it and my diff centre in to Hart Transmission in Brendale to fit.
Looks like they did a good job, and had it back to me the next day. They replaced all the seal and everything too ($400 all up for those interested).

Now I'm trying to install it and having dramas. The diff goes back in fine, and the driver side rear axle fits in no worries, but the passenger side won't. It's sticking out a little way.
Tried pulling it all out and trying to work out what's wrong, but haven't had any joy. Re-installed... Same issue.
Do I have to cut a bit off the axle? I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue.

Only possible issue I can think of is that I'm not sure if the long cross shaft is meant to sit between the 2 axles or not... Mine is, and it may be what is stopping the axle going all the way in?
Diagram on this link if you don't understand what I'm saying - http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index. ... tail&p=929

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Very frustrating. :(

Whoa.. dont cut your axle down.
How much is it sticking out by?
The cross pins are meant to be in between the axles..

Are the axles you have the original ones that were always in the car?
Any other details on your car?

Hey Dan,
It's probably sticking out around 5mm - 7mm

Original 26spline axles that I've always had.
If I look through the drivers side axle shaft I'm pretty sure I can see the passenger side axle hitting against the cross pin.
Sierra is a WT 1991. Standard axles and ratio 3.7 diff ratio. china4x4extreme locker, installed into the diff by hart transmission.

Axle goes into the diff, and I can turn it. I've put my air compressor up to it and had a mate turn it and it seems to be locking properly, and unlocking.
Only issue seems to be that it's sticking out too far now. :S

tried sticking a broomstick or similar in thats smaller than the axle shaft.

push it in until it stops. mark it and pull it out.

if its hitting pins the stick will hit at the same place.

Pop ya diff out, put it on a bench and poke the axle in question into it... a bit of rtv sealant V a whole lot a questions.

You only have to pull one axle to remove..

I hear the ching soon may require some "fitting"

I was playing around with it a little last night and there may actually be a few teeth sticking into the shaft
Gonna drop the diff again this evening and see if that's correct and also try following tanshi's advice.

Here's an image to help clarify what I'm talking about with the axle not going all the way in (wheel bearing is still poking out).

Well, according to some measurements I've done with a few loose objects lying around, it should go in.
The conclusion I think I've reached is that the retainer and wheel bearing may have slipped out towards the wheel end of the axle?
Maybe during removal of the axle? I don't know, that doesn't really make sense, but it kinda looks like that's what may have happened.

Is anyone (with a spare axle lying around...) able to measure the distance from the end of their axle to the start of their wheel bearing for me?
