On the GV you have the Lock nut that you need the Special tool to tighten on, then there is a ring with 4 screws that locks that in place so it cant turn.
Im sure its the MAF as a unifilter faiedl on last trip, the MAFF sensor is discolored like it got burnt, engine doesn't idle properly for a few seconds like its being choked on hot starts, so i think its reporting to the engine that there is less air coming in than there actually is. I should be able to work it out on this trip. The unifiliter has since been thrown away, it could be first hand proof thay can cause damage to the MAF sensor.
Yep been running it for close to 7 years now, i have converted it and did alot of research before i did. It actually runs alot better on Flex than normal fuel apart from fuel economy, but after a bit of fine tuning the fuel usage is not much different than unleaded. I notice that towing the camper with E85 is also alot better than normal fuel. With E85 i can get up princess highway in 5th with unleaded i have to drop back to 3rd sometimes. Also measure next to 0 on emissions compared to around 15ppm on unleaded, and when i start the car its a nice sweet vodka smell.
But i will not say converting is recommended a GV can handle it and possibly the 2L V6, but you still do have to keep your mind open about running it as there is a lot of bias towards only running unleaded and then towards E85. All i can say is the fuel injectors, fuel lines etc all look good, and havent gone brittle etc, valves never tick or knock, oil stays cleaner than normal, and dont have any performance or starting issues on it (after conversion) if run without conversion engine wont idle on start by itself for first 30secs then will kick in but will feel like a slow diesel until the ECU works it out then it kicks in and works fine, but starting will always be the issue if not converted as it runs on the Basic Unleaded MAP.

When was the last time you ran injector cleaner? I wouldn't be surprised if yours are gummed up on that shit! My commodore did it after running it for quite a while, don't forget just running one or two tanks of unleaded after that stuff its gonna be any good. It took about 3 to 4 tanks before my commodore ran better and got my economy back.
I only run premium in the GV, i just suck it up and pay for the better stuff rather than going the cheap stuff these days.
What do you run on trips? Coz stuff all servos have it?
E85 keeps the injectors clean, only will gum up if never ran it then start using it and dont replace the fuel filter. Thats where most cars can fail as the alcohol dislodges everything in the tank, fuel lines etc etc.
I ran two bottles of injector cleaner when went to Victoria running normal unleaded on way back. I took one of the injectors out to have a look last year and it looked good.
Fuel economy unleaded wise hadn't changed after running E85
I use to fill up at SAAF then United and now Caltex for E85. On trips i just fill up on e85 then on ron92, occasionally i do run premium normally in hilly area's towing the camper.
I feel tempted to pull the fuel pump out and have a look at that.
I didnt i just pulled one out and looked to see if it was getting burnt or going brittle.
anyways i proved my XL_7 current setup will be staying for a while apart from tyres which are half worn and at 38psi they where under inflated and after 146K started wearing down at the side walls bad, and was told by a pro they where under inflated. But they did do very well in the sand.
Fuel econ wise on the e85 was great over two days of sand driving and revving the crap out of the motor it used less than a quarter of a tank around 15Liters.

Huh? Burnt or blackening is generally from reversion and the EGR. It doesn't tell you anything about the internals of the injector weather its clean or not from what fuel you are using...
Your tire guy seems like he's explaining how to inflate your treads to get the most longevity out of them. This is not proportional to how well the tire grips and handles..

gecko, i've got a guy that works in a tyre shop too, and he suggests using the 4psi rule as a guide on any tyre to get it within the correct running pressures & adjust it to suit from there.
there is only 275kgs difference between a 2.5 GV & the 2.7 XL-7, there i no need to run the kinds of pressures you're running, it's not a 2.7t land-troll.
if you want the "wear line" to go away give me the keys & i'll take it for a drive through the hills... will be gone in minutes.

Just did a 806km Journey with a Combination of Offroad (High range and Low range work) and High way work... Consumed $206 worth of Fuel at $1.74 a Litre (Premium BP Ultimate as BP Was conveniently located in the NSW High Country)
So I am not sure what the hell that means the consumption was as I am not good at maths..
$206/$1.74 = 118.4
So that would mean
806k/ 118.4 litres = 6.8 What ever that means lol..
To be honest the return trip has still left 3/4 of a Tank since I filled it to come home
Offroad Range was rather impressive.. Managed to get 300k's to the first half tank Which was all offroad..

Going of the tyre pressures gees. i hured guys arguing this over a few beers at tailem bend, all i will say is im going by what the guys pump them up to, they work it all out and so far its done me good.
Magnat works out your using roughly 14.68L/100K which is about what i use.
Try reversing it 118.4/806K x 100 =14.68 L/100K but off road your prob getting closer to 9, i found off road this weekend passing it barely touched the fuel i worked it out lots of steep sand hill climbing but more just driving around in sand for 2 days i was using around 10.2L/100K but considering the engine was on all day with the aircon most of the time it did pretty well.

front or rear?
If you go round corners hard you will get excessive wear on the edges of the front wheels at 60psi. Especially with the lack of front castor on 4wds.

should have run 96psi in your tyres & you would have made it home with 1/4 of a tank.
