sussing out power steering pump position while im at "work"
looks like i might be able to drop the original alternator position down.
and put a small pump above it.

there is no way a powersteering pump is going to steal half of the power from it.

yes it will sap a little bit but it will be worth it to be able to turn the wheels.

JR, get to work on the efi for me then :D

i sat and figured out how im gonna fit the power steering pump last night.
a second crank pulley will slide on to the crank directly infront of the original, it replaces the boss that the fan fits too. ( i run a thermo)
and NH pajero pump will swing in on a bracket under the engine.

picked up a cheep jimny powersteering box.
all braketry has now been removed from the chassis and old steering arms tossed across the shed floor.
just need to drill holes, add crush tubes and bracing plates.
come up with some steering arms
change out the LJ steering column for a sierra one.
plumb in the pajero pump
bask in the glory that is actually being able to turn the steering.

So what happens when the engine starts backwards to the PS... just wondering. Interested to see it in action, a few too many Jimny bits IMO haha.

I think the worst that will happen is the non pressure line gets pressurised and blows a hose

Can't say I've ever had much to do with power steer but I thought it might only try to pressurize the reservoir? Anyway it will only run backwards if the timing is 'tarded. When you run an engine that only had 33 hp 28 years ago you tend to stay on top of these things.

We use steering pumps with a large reserve tank as bucket brakes on our self tipping hoists - If you only use a small tank the oil gets pushed out when the pump runs backwards,

Ran into some issues with the steering arms jamming over the weekend. i had to move my diff back 25mm.
pump is all fitted up to the pump. Im waiting on a 650mm vbelt to come through in the mail.

sierra steering colomn shroud was modded and bolted up to the fire wall to support the stock inner shaft.

fully intended on taking lots of pics and documenting what we did, but ran out of time. i'll try and take pics before we put the engine back in place.
