Is there any particular reason why you want to run straight lpg as it is very limiting and unless the engine is built and tuned right there is a fair loss of power to go along with it

i believe 99.9 of that to be untrue, gas can be found in most of australia & LPG has a higher octane rating & if tuned for straight gas you can actually get more power than petrol & if you're only running gas you'd be pretty dumb not to tune it properly.

have a look at viewtopic.php?f=4&t=28737 & viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14900&hilit=gas+bag

appsie's trail rig also runs a LPG set up viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2090&hilit=trail it's down the back end of the build pages.

Im just going from personal experience from an lpg getting point of view i have done a lot of work with lpg and dealt with a lot of people with straight lpg vehicles most wish that they had dual fuel. The quality of the leg in the country is crap at best converters will require vleaningbon around a 6 monthly basis depending on level of contamination replacement is required if it gets to bad a dirty converters can cause hard andssometimes no start on cold mornings. I've owned leg vehicles and would never run one straight lpg. But hey just an educated opinion

i've found dual fuel on a non fuel injected car is a compromise, tune it for one & it'll be crap on the other. LPG has the benefit of being able to supply fuel on pretty much any angle unlike petrol so would be ideal in offroad situations.

vleaningbon = cleaning

if you want to register it i think you'll have to go with an australian kit rather than the "got-propane" kit from the US, maybe wombat can clear that up for us?

che_guitarra ran LPG on his rig and travelled across australia on it..

IMO the biggest disadvantage in a sierra is that to have a tank of usable size its gotta be mounted behind the front seats =/

And yes stupid phone means spelling is crap. Gas research has probably the best mixer fiddly to tune tho and a tank of a useable size is going to be big

Oh and gas reasurch and turbo is a great mix just so you know. But at boost levels of around 18psi they have been known to hold the throttle open unless a secondary return spring is used.

hey wombat178, there is a few reasons why I want to run it on gas, I have never had a car that runs on gas, and its cheaper then petrol.
The sierra I am thinking about doing this to is a LWB so I will have to do some measurements and see what size tank I can fit in the rear.
this will be my daily driver until my oldest bot can get his license which is a few years away. Im in no rush just slowly doing it up.

Look I'm probobly a little jaded as previously being in the industry I've seen all the horror stories. give it a go you may like it you may hate it you won't know till you try. There is still a rebate available so if you can piece a kit together cheap you may actually make money on it. I've got a brand new tank at home if you need one just unsure of the size

Really can't be arsed checking under the LWB i got int the garage but there should be enough but surely a doughnut LPG tank would fit underneath in the extended middle space. If you are going to run straight lpg then there stock tank location too. In brazil they have a lot of small eurocars so there are scuba tank sized CNG tanks. Wish we had something complied like that in australia. Would really love 2, one hanging on each side under the doors.

If you do go straight LPG maybe have a small 4L to 5L petrol Tank fabbed sitting inside the sidewall of the stock filler location. Topping it up every 40-50kms might be a pain but since the alternative of LPG Jerry cans being scarce it can't hurt :thefinger: . Also going off the experience of my cousins CNG VW santana its good to run petrol through every few tanks to lube it all and stop it drying out. I know you can get lube injector systems but way have an extra product when you can have a limp-home-mode. (tune the dizzy for LPG, back off the timing heaps when going petrol)

My LWB Sierra had its petrol tank behind the seats.
Was way better off road than a tank hanging under the back.
Lost a bit of cargo room of course, but in a LWB not a problem.

i have yet to see them, the only style i've seen is a triple tank design which is welded in one piece. So not really any more modular than conventunal tanks

I know this is slightly off topic but have u guys heard of running duel fuel (petrol+lpg) for the purpose of going up steep hills.
Iv been doing a lot of research into the Weber carbs for my zook and seems some people tend have the lpg set up, and they power at a hill (running petrol) and then switch to gas to make it up and over .anyone here ever had a set up like that ??
