What Globes do you recommend as an upgrade ?

I just looked now and I have Osram Bilux- 55w Globes in there now..

Get a multimeter

Turn your high beam on (engine runnning doesnt matter easier with it off)

with the high beam on, measure the volatge at the battery terminals
now get at the back of either headlight plug and with it still connected measure across the 2 vertical sockets

take measurement 2 from measurement 1 and report back with that number.

OK.. I will have to buy a multimetre first lol..

Just for comparisons sake, my GV is 12.40V at the battery and 10.63V at the headlights (1.77 volt drop).

After doing my own harness upgrade I recall I get 0.2V drop (this could also be the error in my multimeter). I used 8GA wire. Probably overkill but that's what I had on hand.

Actually I installed a set of Narva Artic Plus 50 Globes, Cleaned the Headlight lenses with toothpaste and the results were a vast improvement.

I got the Narva Blue Plus 90 globes, so much more light, and a much nicer, whiter light...

I was warned off going any higher then the 50 due to shorter globe life?
Is it a load of crap or is there some truth in it ?

I had phillips version of a plus 100%, lasted months rather than years

I get around 8 - 12 months out of my narvas, and I have them on all the time when I drive.

Because they built to much finer tolerances and the wire used is much thinner, wound tighter so it is more fragile to vibration.

As I think I have said in other threads the improvement you will get from a loom upgrade will be many times more than you get from any +50, +90 or + anything globes.

Yeah but a loom upgrade requires technical skills I severely lack..

I have had mine in a year now, and no problems... from memory, on the actual package, they state they " dont " last as long as normal globes, but have min of how many thousand hours they last... so if yours didnt last very long, take them back, as i am pretty sure they have a 12month warranty...

thats a terrible link with more bad opinions than this place

lol the second bulb blows after the first cause all the extra current in the headlight circuit rushes to it :rofl:

higher voltage does shorten a bulbs life obviously and a dodgy alternator can blow bulbs, but not like they are talking about

You don't need a lot of skill if Royce makes a loom for the XL7. It is plug and play. Failing that a small investment with an auto electrician will save you many hundreds of dollars in globes over the next few years.
