I need 4 new tyres for my 2003 GV. I was quoted $220 each for Bridgestone Dueler H/L D683 plus $45 for a balance & wheel alignment.

Size of tyre 235/60R/16.

Am I being ripped off, or is this a good price?

yea sounds alright...although balance is/should be ncluded in the fitment of a new tyre!but depends on shop to shop i guess....try shopping around..

Sorry, I should've mentioned the $220 price was fitted & balanced. The wheel alignment was $45.

However, I found an even cheaper price $210 each for Bridgestone ER300 (balanced & fitted) wheel alignment $65.

I'm confused now....

It's only $20 difference at the end of the day, but now I don't know which one to choose.

Which of the 2 would suit the GV better?

I don't know why I choose Bridgestones. I guess cause I've always had them, except on my last Zook I had Firestones.

Should I be looking at another brand of tyre perhaps?

It all depends on what you want them for. Bridgestones may be fine for you. I've had Maxxis, BFG's, Toyo's, Simex, Firestones and Bridgestones. I really liked the BFG's and my current Toyo's are doing ok on my Prado. I found the Bridgestones just didn't have very good grip on the road, particularly when wet! I spun out in my shorty GQ on a wet road while doing less than the speed limit!! I quickly changed them to the BFG's

maxxis MA-P1 are going good on my mums rav, check them out. Bridgestones like to get chopped out, and bfg at's are shit on road lol

the er300 looks like it would give better handling and the other one might last a bit longer

Just make sure you ask if there any additional tyre disposal charges.
Some of the cheaper places charge an extra few dollars per tyre to dispose of your old tyres, but you don't find out until they put it on the bill.

Balancing should come in the price of any new tyre.


Wheel alignments vary. Not sure how much other than toe is adjustable on a 2003 GV. Would imagine camber probably requires the replacement of one of the bolts in the bottom strut bracket.

Some places just check your alignment, and close enough is good enough. Others make an effort to adjust what is adjustable, to what the spec book sez it should be.

What makes you think you need an alignment?
Did the last set of tyres wear evenly?

No real reason for the alignment Paulv, I just always get an alignment whenever I get new tyres fitted.

Those bridgestones look worthless offroad.

I would go more aggressive ATs. I have Firestone Firehawk RMT which are a really aggressive AT, similar to the 1st gen BFG MT. They were cheap as, and after about 35,000km have started to become a tad slippery in the wet. Pretty good off road though.

Having said that I probably wouldn't buy them next time as they are 10-ply rated and are way too stiff in the sidewall for such a light car, ie the ride is pretty harsh on the road.

Why do you say that Sam? Have you had some? Mine went really well on road, although the Hilux and Patrol I had them on is a tad heavier than a Suzuki.
