I am trying to figure out how you remove the 12V socket from the Dash on the XL7
What I intend on doing is relocating it to behind the ash tray and fabricating a mount to hold a Dual output.. Since the Ashtray in my ride is a useless waste of space..

At the moment the dual output sticks too far out and nearly blocks 5 th..

It sorta looks like the socket is molded into the dash which would make replacing it a nightmare..
So If any GV owners have ever replaced or removed their 12 V outlet before could you let me know how you did it ?

Thought about leaving it how it is and just wiring in an additional outlet or two instead? Would be a shitload easier, you wouldn't have to butcher the dash, and that way you can put the sockets exactly where you want them depending on what you are using it for.

If you are using one of them for a GPS just hard wire it instead (run cable up through dash). Beats having a messy cable running up over your dash and frees up the lighter socket for other things. Can get the hardwire kits off ebay for about $10, seriously worth doing as it cleans up the interior ten fold.

They usually come out by holding the front bit you can see and turning the back part. They have a coarse thread like a screw in light bulb.

Nope couldnt remove it... Its stuck in there good and I am not about to pull the UHF and the Stereo out to get better access.

Bugger - sounds like it may be moulded into the fascia like you thought.

I know my falcon (and commodores previously) have all been the screw type fittings, but the one on my better halfs focus is moulded/glued into the fascia. Had to swap it into a new fascia to suit a double DIN stereo. Was a nightmare trying to remove it, would have stuck with a single DIN stereo if I knew how much effort it would be.

I'll have mine apart in the next day or so to install the UHF, will have a closer look at it then for you.

That would be awesome.. It is possible you might find something I have missed..
