can anyone tell me what the hoses that go onto the air filter box thing do. what does the big hose that goes from the air filter box to the rocker cover do? and the smaller diameter hose that goes to the engine?

the big one is part of the PCV (positive crank ventilation) system, and the small one is for the cold start flap thing on the front of the airbox... i think

Sounds like he's thinking of a replacement filter (K&N pod) or something. The small one can just be blocked off with a tight fitting bolt but the big one needs to be plumbed back into the intake or have a small filter fitted.

don't put a pod filter on it, get the k&n replacement filter for the std box.

pod filters have a very small surface area and dont take very long on a dirt track to block up

better off keeping the std paper filter for off road.K&N filters and any re-usable filter have a oil that needs to be sprayed on after they are washed...oil and dirt don't mix....unless you have a snorkel and run a pre filter dust sock or somthing similar.

K&N filters are not the best in dusty conditions, stick with paper filters and
you will be laughing.

well apparently i was goin to put a pod on. haah i was just askin out of curiousity to be honest but thanks for getting that idea out of my head. ok so paper filter is the go then??? ill drop in to suzi sport tomorrow.

yeah just go to repco, a lot cheaper and are decent quality. as a side note how offen should you replace them?

when they need it. seriously though in the dry season i used to kill one
about every 5000ks but now i have a pre filter i am getting twice that out of a filter.

In city driving they should last 30-40,000kms. But as Shep said, in dry, dusty conditions then check more frequently.

during the dry the routine is check the fuel and blow out the filter.
