Anybody who owns a sat nav and is sick of it on the windscreen, or falling off the windscreen every couple of weeks because it loses it's suction might like to read on...

If you have a tin top, your options are a little more limited because the sat nav need to "see" up, but still, this may be of interest.

I have always tried to mount my sat navs lower down on the dash, and have fabricated a vast variety of mounts over the years. Having access to aluminium offcuts a guillotine and bending brake has helped.

But I have always been on the lookout for something better. I found plenty of these http://www.google.com.au/search?q=17mm+ball+mount&hl=en&safe=off&rls=ig&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=WhxAUYS_JI3UkQWFpoHIBQ&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1651&bih=833, but none zero zilch in Aust. Most stores go "wha????"
I found an multi fit kit in JB hifi that has what I want, but they want $35.00.

But, I found a mob in Queensland, that MIGHT have what I want. http://www.smallparts.com.au/store/item/dk345rs/knobsballthreadedphenolicwithshank/ These knobs have a diameter that is very close to 17mm.

So, my question is, does anyone live nearby to them, and own a Nuvi?
Do you reckon you could drop in and test fit a ball on your cradle, and let us know how good a fit it is?

Seems to be opposite Leisure Marine. Streetview says its a motorcycle shop/Tattoo shop?

Indeed, someone may have already discovered the perfect item. I'd be interested to hear about it.

I have concidered buying some from the US, but delivered they can be upwards of 20 bucks each, and these are less than $4.

Cheers

Dunno if these are available in QLD, but a) not to be found here in WA, and b) not what i want....

The threaded hole in the ball mount I found, will permit a very compact thru dash mount, allowing the sat nav to sit very clost to the dash, but also easily allow me to relocate it to my work ute/family car/truck etc. With a small tab of Aluminium plate, I could probably make the mounting holes complety invisible.

But thanks for responding. Appreciate it.
