Hey guys,

So i pulled my Lock RIght apart to replace a broken spring.

I have put it back together and if i was to slide an axle in while holding it in my hand its completely locked. Is this normal and when its back in the car it should be free or have i done something wrong?

Like the axles don't turn freely of one another?

This is normal, the clunk around corners is the locker unlocking. But you should be able to hold one axle still and (with effort) spin the other axle.

So i have the locker out of the car and while holding the carrier in my hand and another person sliding the axle in and trying to turn it does not work. The side gear wont spin freely instead it's just completely locked and spins my hand.

I think i may need to pull it apart again.

You probably can't provide enough Torque by hand to provide the unlocking, depending how tightly it's been shimmed. Lockrites REMAIN locked at all times until there is sufficient torque from the different wheelspeeds of the inner and outer wheels to UNLOCK them. If you've just got one axle in the carrier, turning that will turn the carrier because you also need the opposite axle to turn the other way to unlock it.

They really should be called Auto-UNlockers.

haha ok, Thats weird, when i had it on jack stands and the diff completely assembled i was able to hold one side and turn one wheel slowly. But if i spun it fast it would lock.

With 2 axles in it, lock 1 axle still, turn the pinion- or crownwheel if the diff is apart- in one direction to load it up and the other axle should be able to turn in the same direction as the load. Should be able to turn it with the brake drum flange and you'll hear it click evenly.
