I may come back from this weekends High Country trip wanting 32's

Mine were the best tyre I've used on sand and pretty meh in mud.

I read an article written by a bfg engineer in the 80s. It said as much as 90% of a tyres rolling resistance come from internal friction with the materials of the tyre!

downsizing is going to be a huge step backwards in my opinion, i imagine you'll be getting hung up in ruts etc a heap more + with the crawler gears it's going to be super low in low range

That is my major concern.
Though some of the 30's I have looked at are actually taller than my present 31's, just narrower.
My lack of tread has my 31's at a measured 29.
Vinnies (NEW) 30's were taller than my worn out 31's
Lack of tread for off road is my main issue, still road legal,
I imagine my tyres must have been bigger when new,
but time is right to investigate my choices.
Skinny is the main aim. Taller be nice.
2 more payments on the Vit (4weeks), and then it is tyres time.

I was offered a set of 16's with 32's on very cheap, but couldn't afford them at the time.
They are gone already, I checked
I have looked at 16's a few times, original reasons for not going 16's,
were I would need 7 rims, 2 for trailer and a spare, then 7 tyres.
Also availability in a good offset was difficult.
And 31's and 15's are cheap and plentiful supply.
(Now sticking to smaller tyres on trailer so still considering 16's for the car)

I imagine after lightening my load carried, and the lightening of trailer tyres,
that my 31's will be fine (even better with tread). Will decide after weekend.

There are other things I can lighten up.

One advantage of sticking to 31's in same tyre is I can buy one or 2 at a time, spread the cost,
another is I won't need to redesign or fiddle with my set up.
(Also knowing I like the Couragias all round on both my Sierra and my Vitara is mind easing)

I have 2 50% worn 31's in back yard I could throw on,
but with tyres I like to be careful. Have had nasty experiences.

Don't discount Maxxis - Treps were the best thing I've done to my cars, Bighorns seem to be performing well for people, and even my Buckshits have been pretty capable for the little I've done on them.

I'm assuming Creepies are a little outside your wants/needs.

Enjoyed the High Country trip.
Off road/low range is brilliant ..... for a Vit.
High range needs better gearing for longer trips.
So bigger tyres is out, unless I lash out on some Turkish 5:72 diffs.
Skinnier tyres of same height will suffice.

Seen one when i was getting my camber sorted last week, they look good and quite cheap. They seemed soft, probably ideal for suzukis.

howdy az, after some help. im currently looking for a set of new tyres (maybe rims) im just wondering how my vit would go with 30 / 9.5 with stock gearing, and if it will struggle, is it just worth sticking with the 235s is it worth the grief

i doubt you'd notice a huge difference going from a 29 to a 30... but the gearing is going to suck with both IMO...

Shandy92 on here was running 30s and then 31s with factory gearing and hated it.

My Auto EFI Vit copes with 31's on road.
But my next tyres will be 30's.
Carby and manual is probably worse?

hey mate, What type of terrain do you drive? as alien said i ran 235's and then 31's, it was livable but not recommended for the rocky driving that i do. If i did beach driving i wouldnt go 31's nor the reduction gears. but reductions gears are the only way to go if u drive rocks.

hey mate, mostly sand, its a manual efi vit, its tolerable with 235s, i no a at will do better at sand but mts look nice, i like them federal mts, i do abit of rock and that but mainly beach, or flinders or rain forest

id never go 31s thats like huge and id rather not be beating my car with a hammer and grinder especially when i don't need that big for what i drive

Mate, i would prob go 30's. bit more clearance under the diff but not quite the hassles of a 31. do you find you need the clearance? if you dont then go 235's again.

For sand you don't need gears, with 30's, in my limited sand experience.
I have t-case gears, and they are a bit too slow for sand with 31's.

nah i think you would be safe. i was happy with 235's just the clearance that i get from the 31's is what got me.

ahh chris is that because there lower for crawling and ya thats what has interested me plus the fact with a body lift and coil lift it looks weird with 235 ats defs needs some muddies, what sort of off set would u need
