yes someone else is chasing an lj 50

i would prefer the longer wheelbase model

but will settle for anything would prefer almost roadworthy and i am willing to spend the money for the right one

A LWB LJ50 (technically, LJ51) is one of the ledgends of Suzuki world, every now and then you hear about them but I've never seen proof they actually exist.

Same here, heard of them, usually its a case of "my mates girfriends uncles neighbours dog walker saw one on the way to thier appointment at the optometrist" or something similar.
Never seen one-nearest being a pic on this forum of a 6 wheeler zook in Thailand or someplace
I always reckoned if they were real-they were given a stretch sometime after they left the zook factory,

A factory built long wheel base LJ would have defeated the original intent of the design- to be a "Kei" class light 4wd.
[Kei being the small car class that gets cheaper registration, insurance and tax in Japan.]

however if your talking about an LJ81. with the 4 cyl 4 stroke motor. PM highwaystar. he was looking to sell one a few months back

i am after a 2 stroke as i think it sounds awesome and with a moke body would be fun.

the original plan was a chassis from a jimny but the adr's involved mean i cannot do it

unless somebody out there has a 82 or earlier sierra as that would also do

Sounds like you would be better off buying an lj81 and a seperate two stroke motor

why is that tanshi

the whole purpose for doing this is that i love to drive the moke and i love 4wd ing sooo why not combine the two

Just because LJ's and mokes are cool doesn't mean jamming the two together is also cool.

It would be a shame to see an LJ and a moke) wasted on this idea.

yes i know of two build threads one is andys moke who i bought my first moke off and his cannot be registered as he used a later model suzuki chassie and then there is the blue one over in wa and i am not sure how he got his registered

Why would you use LJ chassis, you havn't even taken the time to work out that the wheel base of an LJ chassis is not going to line up with the moke wheel arches. The moke wheel base is 2020mm an LJ is 1930mm, a sierra swb is closer at 2030mm. My advice is forget it, if you havn't even considered the most basic requirement (wheel base suitability) then you probably are not up to a project like this.

No idea why anyone would want to destroy a Suzuki by fitting an ugly box moke body.

2 stroker if you will consider that the laws dont permit me to use much else and the size of the motor in the front of the lj is pretty much the only thing that comes close to the size required also if you have ever looked at the way a moke is made it is very simple to take up to approximaty 300 mm out of the centre of a moke.

Please do not assume that i have not done my research or i would simply put the moke on a jimny chassis

Ok mate sorry I still dont get it, a Jimny is too long and the LJ is too short, the Sierra is pretty close to right so there would be no need to shorten the moke tub.

Since mokes only went to 1981 in Australia a Sierra is a later model vehicle than a moke and from what I have read when doing these kind of modifications, build ups, engine conversions etc QLd transport (I assume you are in qld) require you to use components (chassis, engine, brakes etc ) that are no older than the vehicle it is to be registered as.

If you did a Moke/Suzuki hybrid they would register it as a Suzuki anyway not as a moke because they go by the chassis not the body. I know of two vehicles in Brisbane that look like hiluxes because they have hilux cabs but one is registered as a Nissan Patrol and the other as an 80 Series Landcruiser and many people on here would have seen the "Sierra" (it was registered as a Sierra) from Redland Bay that looks exactly like a light blue Ke30 Corolla.

As far as the moke thing goes it has been done before using WT sierra chassis and the 1300 sierra engine, do a seach of "My Minizooki" posted in Rigs of AZ by yarnie.

Mate I am not having a crack at your enthusiasm to do something different, I think it is commendable, it is just that you need to consider the amount of work, it is not just a matter of drilling some extra holes, bolting a moke tub on and away you go. With that "Minizooki" project you will see that he has welded a sierra floorpan and firewall into a moke tub, I reckon he did that for a number of reasons.

1. east west engined moke has no transmission tunnel,
2. every nut and bolt and meausurement on a moke is imperial whereas on a suzuki it is metric
3. it allows the use of the sierra steering column, the moke steering obviously wont mate up to sierra steering box
4. it allows use of sierra dash, the moke gauges, speedo etc are not compatable to the suzuki engine, transmission, senders etc
5. it allows use of the suzuki brake booster, brake lines, wiring loom, heater, plumbing etc
6. it allows the use of suzuki pedals to successfully operate the suzuki clutch, accelerator, brakes
7. it allows the use of suzuki hand brake lever which will mate up to the suzuki handbrake either at transfer or wheels depending on model
8. mokes don't have chassis mounting points, by using the sierra floor pan he cleverly has the body mounted by factory mounts to the chassis. (if you don't do this you will need to satisfy the engineer that the mounting points you make are adequate)

He did a good job of that thing, contact him mate and I am sure that he will give you advice and tell you that it is not a job to be undertaken lightly.

im building a lj50/81 hybrid.. haha.. 2stroke, lwb, lj ute :) p.m littlejeep, he still has a lwb lj chassis, or p.m me and I will give you his number he is located in ipswich

just so your aware a moke is actually 2108.20 mm long or the 10 inch wheel model was 2030 but you already knew that didnt you 2stroker and seeing an lj81 or longwheelbas lj80 is 2200 it wouldnt be soo bad

170mm is an astronomical difference.

I reckon an LJs steering box would get in the way of the firewall too.

If Vermins chassis works out for you I have complete LJ diffs, springs, shockies, steering box, transfer case, LJ50 gearbox, LJ50 engine cradle, steering column here if you can't find a complete LJ to strip down.

lock it up mods, have just acquired a lj 81 with a reconditioned lj 50 motor to drop in it all for a good price too

i feel a bit for those that like original lj 81s but all measured up is perfect for what i have planned
