Ok Im thinking about possibly removing the G16B for something with a bit more grunt, from what i've read on here turboing the vitara engine is expensive for the sort of power you get from them
I've seen dank (Dan) zook with the 4AGE know how it goes in the bush
I know people used to put a V6 in a zook, besides been a heavy motor I couldnt see much gain due to the weight of it
there is a guy down here in warrnambool who put a Mazda 13B turbo in a zook, anyone on here done this conversion, been a small motor and one that likes to rev I would be interested to know how easy the conversion was ???

YOur talking about BJ? It was on eBay a few weeks ago (numer plate BADBEE) and only sold for 4g. Lot of work and custom things to consider like crossmembers and shafts. Still gunna have to spend a fair bit if you go down either path really. It'll never be a race car. Theres a guy in Portland with a turbo'd GTi engine in his sierra, he's spend thousands on the engine though

The apprentices in there are hopeless. I know it's off the road with a blown rear diff but I doubt it has a knock. From what I gather the engine owes him about 5 or 6 plus the microtech controller and shit

If you are upgrading from a G16B the obvious choice would be a J20.
But if you are thinking bigger power than that while still having reliability and not weighing down the vehicle then maybe consider a Toyota 2zzGE adapted to a vitara gearbox, 140kw, alloy block, small, light, naturally aspirated (just expensive and hard to come by)

my vote is for J20a, having done one in my sierra. awesome motor and enough power to turn your pants brown. you seriously do not need more power than a j20a

I agree tanshi, at around 100kw a J20 has more than enough power...............and it is a Suzuki engine.

has anyone engineered a j20 in their sierra? I'm pretty sure the max you can take a sierra to in WA is a 1.8L (without upgrading brakes and other things that make it crazy spensive).

That being said i also had preapproval for a 2.7 in my sierra aswell
you do need to upgrade brakes to Vitara calapers and rear disks though

Tanshi has pre-approval. As do I. But why on earth would you fit such a powerful motor, only to not upgrade 'brakes and other things that make it crazy spensive'? IMO if you are going to the effort of ANY engine conversion with more than OEM power, then you should be upgrading the brakes, and atleast looking at your suspension setup.

Don't get me wrong - i agree brakes need doing - i LOVE my rear discs. Its just that there's people who do things properly, and there's people who just jam a motor in and call it good... lol

You don't need power Owen, you just need to learn to drive (read the above as: power is fun but not really necessary. The G16b has enough for what you are doing with it. Take it from someone whos been through it all and spent way too much money on the zook. just leave it how it is. It's a good rig. )

Its also worth noting that power leads to the inevitable upgrading of all other driveline components. So for the sake of reliability alone, the G16B is the perfect motor for a sierra.

maybe your right, i was just a bit concerned about hearing of g16b blocks breaking etc not sure if this this was more to do with the baleno engine or vitara engine
I might just buy another g16b engine and build it up and turbo it down the track, to keep the weight down

Not sure what you mean by 'keep the weight down', as a turbo G16B would weigh more than a J20.

Anyone know if the Borg Warner 5 speeds in locally built 2S powered Coronas have the same bell housing pattern as a 3S?
