[Rockhopper]

Since doing my bodylift last year, my air cleaner assembly has moved up with the body, but my engine has remained the same height as standard. This has resulted in the rubber hose between the air filter and carby to become a little kinked, and (as I'm a bit of an obsessive compulsive) it's bugging the crap out of me. Was wondering if and what any of you guys have done about this. My first thought was just to refit the air filter a little lower down the body, but this won't work as the base of the air cleaner is already touching the inner wheel well. I'm now thinknig of removing the air cleaner assembly and modifing an old 4k corolla one to fit on top of the carby. My only concerns at the moment is are the top of the Corolla and Sierra carbs the same diameter to fit the Corolla air filter, and, will I be able to close the bonnet once it's on??

i used a air cleaner hose from a corolla seca shitbox but only as the sierra one split.
now i have a 1.6 the standard one fits perfectly.

I am trying to remember back to my old SWB that I did a body lift on and came across the same thing. I ended up just putting up with it, but I think if you took the metal hat that goes on the carb and cut the inlet off and welded it back on a different angle you might alleviate the problem.

If you can't get the 1.3 airbox to work maybe try a 1.0 airbox. They are cylindrical but sort of long and skinny compared to the 1.3 which is more short and fat. In the 1.0 it's layed down on the guard in a similar location.

get some tube the right diameter as the carby inlet and weld to the carby hat. you only need about 30mm.

Take the body lift out and cut a hole in the bonnet, will fix both issues.

i had the same problem because i had a SJ410 with SJ413 front gaurds and a g13a, now it had no firewall mods so they motor was dropped, and i got a 1.3 airbox for it and basically had the problem you guys with a 2 inch body lift would happen, turns out i have pics of the soultion for you lol.




i took the stud out and used a long bolt to make up for the extra height, yours will sit nicer because looking back on it someone had welded an extra peice to make the inlet longer aswell... that car had some weird shit

what size is the air hose? i need a new hose but am nowhere near my zook.. anyone know?

I had a brainwave today at work and thought about putting a spacer between the carby hat and the carby, and I got home to read your comments and found Joeblow & Saam confirmed my brainwave in their comments so thanx guys. That is the route I'll take.

hose is 6cm/2.5in ID. just in case someone wanted to know.
