Hey guys, so last week i purchase an SJ80 Coily Sierra. Now it was running fine then all of a sudden after going for a little wonder up some hills, my idle;s just started going all over the shop and then the engine just dies! While driving its as smooth as a babys bum. Sometimes the idle is great then when u hit a bump or up/down a hill i start having troubles... Ive taken it to a mechanic who cleaned the carby, fuel jets and tuned it, and still no good!!!! Seems to be fuel hungry aswell :(

Carby problems thread #1000

What carby is on it? WEBER?

If your going to all the trouble of cleaning jets and pulling the carby down you may have to drain the tank and flush the lines.
Mine does it too after water got into the filler cap while in deep water.

Heres how i determine if my carby is at fault. When it wont idle and dies, pull over remove carby hat and swap leads 1 & 4 on the dizzy.
Start the car and rev to 3000rpm and let it almost stall then pump the trottle to get it to back fire, repeat 4-5 times, swap leads back, fit carby hat and test drive. If it makes a difference you have a blockage in idle jet, not the main lower jets.

Another way is to take off in 1st gear and quick change to 3rd or 4th, the shaking of the engine can sometimes loosen up the crap in the idle jet, worked for me.

Check your idle up solenoid on the front of the carby

When the rpm is jumping up and down look on the front of the carby for a arm connected to a soleniod. If its moving back and forth in time with your rpm you have a problem here. Back the screw out so if wont make contact with eachother.

When your having idle problems try go from 1st gear to 4th while moving slowly. The shaking of the engine usually makes a quick fix when mine wont idle.

Replace all your vaccum hoses one by one. There is a small u shaped one that was blocked on mine.

Sorry for the late reply OP. Did you try fuel pump and changing the fuel filter?

^^^^^^ X2

Follow all suggestions in this thread and that should get it.

Maybe incorrect float height?
